WWE Royal Rumble 2022 Results

Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins

RESULT: Seth Rollins won by disqualification when Reigns refused to relinquish his guillotine choke after Rollins reached the ropes.
THOUGHTS: Hm. I don't know how to feel about this. I'm now nervous about the rest of this card. This was great up until that disqualification. Part of me says "hold off and wait to judge to see where this is going" and the other part of me says "every time you give WWE the benefit of the doubt that they're going somewhere it'll be worth, they always pivot, change plans, it all falls apart and ends up being a disappointment, so don't set yourself up for that." I guess we'll see by the end of the night.

THOUGHTS: Look. I fully get the complaints that WWE puts zero faith on their regular roster and will always go with the outsiders to take those top spots, because they just value them more. But even though I have no interest in seeing Rousey vs. Flair or Lynch again, I understand why WWE is going in that direction. They're very much a "play to the strengths of our advertisers as much as we can and it's simple and easy and will get us media coverage" mode, rather than trying to do the legwork and put in the effort for proper creative. The match itself was a lot of fun, though, even though I can nitpick TONS about it. There were some solid moments, nevertheless.

Raw Women's Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Doudrop

RESULT: Becky Lynch retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: It was a match. Nothing offensive, nothing great. The crowd wasn't loud, but that's cause they were exhausted from the previous match, of course.

WWE Championship Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

RESULT: Bobby Lashley won the title by pinfall after interference by Roman Reigns.
THOUGHTS: So it's the opposite, then. I thought they'd go with Reigns dropping the belt because of Lesnar. I have no idea who Lashley fights at WrestleMania, but I'm fully expecting Rollins to get a rematch against Reigns at Elimination Chamber and for Lesnar to now win the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber match to challenge Reigns.

The It Couple (The Miz and Maryse) vs. The Grit Couple (Edge and Beth Phoenix)

RESULT: Edge and Beth Phoenix won by pinfall with a double Glam Slam.
THOUGHTS: Good enough for what they were looking to accomplish. I'm fine with it.
