BEST WWE MATCH OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES:
Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Roman Reigns @ WWE WrestleMania 42 — Well damn, they proved me wrong about this feud from the promos to the quality of the in-ring match. This was great.
No Disqualification Lucha de Apuestas Máscara contra Máscara Match: El Grande Americano vs. "The Original" El Grande Americano @ AAA Noche de Los Grandes — How insane that this match blew up the way it did. This was amazing. What a landmark way to put some attention on AAA and to really put two guys over and put a stamp on Kaiser with this gimmick. Underdog story.
Singles Match for the Men's WWE Intercontinental Championship: Penta (c) vs. Chad Gable @ WWE SummerSlam Sunday — Something about this just felt very "SummerSlam" to me. If this were in another era, this would be a Mr. Perfect vs. Bret Hart type of classic SummerSlam match. So good! I'm a sucker for an emotional moment like this on top of it being a great in-ring contest.
Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins @ WWE SummerSlam Sunday — Man, I love it when wrestling can do things like this, with legitimate chapters of era-wide anchor points. This was a great match and it's a great end to the Shield storyline.
