Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review #327

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Monday, April 19, 2021

Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with Impact Wrestling's Knockouts, ROH's Women of Honor, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Rhea Ripley vs Asuka

I made the cardinal sin of expecting this to be a strong match. Despite being advertised as a WrestleMania rematch, this was anything but.

Charlotte Flair removed any hope of this being a true contest, causing a no contest as she took both women out. Yes, this was telegraphed by her promo, but it didn't have any punch to it whatsoever. Overall, this was a disappointment.

Winner: No Contest

Rating: 1/5

Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke vs Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Apparently it is better to walk away from a match against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. That's a new one to me. This match was honestly the drizzling shits.

Winner: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (via countout)

Rating: 1/5

AEW Dark: Elevation

Tay Conti & Hikaru Shida vs Katalina Perez & Leila Grey

Squash City. Which was exactly what it needed to be.

Winner: Tay Conti & Hikaru Shida

Rating: 2/5

Britt Baker vs Skye Blue

Although this was a squash, I appreciate the effort made to give Britt Baker a new dynamic to her character. By targeting the rankings, she is giving herself much needed heel heat.

Winner:Britt Baker

Rating: 2/5

WWE NXT

Mercedes Martinez vs Jessi Kamea

A White Noise was enough to confirm Mercedes Martinez's dominance, giving her a squash victory that she sorely needed to get back on track within NXT's women's division.

Winner: Mercedes Martinez

Rating: 2/5

AEW Dark

Red Velvet & Big Swole vs Amber Nova & Queen Aminata

The match itself was fine, with Red Velvet and Big Swole deservedly winning. However, I was much more impressed with Jade Cargill and Velvet brawling post match.

Winner: Red Velvet & Big Swole

Rating: 2.5/5

Madi Wrenkowski vs Kilynn King

Kilynn King may have won this contest, but once again, it was the heel persona of Madi Wrenkowski that left a lasting impression on me.

Winner: Kilynn King

Rating: 2.5/5

Britt Baker vs Shawna Reed

Another fine squash for the Doctor.

Winner: Britt Baker

Rating: 2/5

Nyla Rose vs Leila Grey

Once again, Nyla Rose impressed with a squash victory.

Winner: Nyla Rose

Rating: 2/5

AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite

Red Velvet vs Jade Cargill

Jade Cargill continues to impress me, whilst Red Velvet is a solid hand to have around in AEW. Both women showed fire, desire, and most importantly, the will to beat the shit out of each other.

Cargill was able to hit a Glam Slam to secure a pinfall victory, and it can now only be a matter of time before she is considered for the AEW Women's Championship.

Winner: Jade Cargill

Rating: 3/5

Kris Statlander vs Amber Nova

Honestly, this match felt a bit flat for me, but that was almost a guarantee considering the long lay off that Kris Statlander had to endure. Amber Nova never really troubled Statlander, but this was for the best. A pinfall victory was enough to remind fans that Statlander was a rising star before her injury.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Rating: 2.5/5

Impact Wrestling

Jazz & Jordynne Grace vs Fire 'N' Flava

In what should go down as her final match, Jazz secured a win for her team with a Michinoku Driver. Her partnership with Jordynne Grace once again resulted in a strong performance, with Fire 'N' Flava more than hanging with Jazz. The post match display of emotion was a great sight to behold, and I wish Jazz all the best with her next direction in wrestling.

Winner: Jazz & Jordynne Grace

Rating: 3/5

WWE NXT UK

Isla Dawn vs Emilia McKenzie

I'm sad to see Emilia McKenzie lose this quickly in NXT UK, as I feel there was some mileage to be had in her going on an undefeated run. Alas, she fell to Isla Dawn in a baffling decision.

Winner: Isla Dawn

Rating: 2/5

WWE Friday Night SmackDown

Natalya vs Shayna Baszler

Natalya winning with a roll up over a much more dominant and talented superstar? Sign me up *rolls eyes*.

Winner: Natalya

Rating: 1/5

MATCH OF THE WEEK:

Jazz & Jordynne Grace vs Fire 'N' Flava

This was a more than solid match to reiterate just how talented Jazz is. She will be sorely missed.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:

Jazz

In a week of admittedly poor wrestling, Jazz was one standout highlight.

So there you have it, the breakdown for the week in women's wrestling. What were some of your favorite and least favorite moments from these women? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
