TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: OCTOBER 17, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Pick Your Poison

It's never great when an episode has a weak start, but my god this week's opening match stank. As part of the Pick Your Poison exchange between PCO and Matt Cardona, PCO would defend both of his title against Rhyno, in what was, apparently, a No Disqualification match. I love matches with weapons in, and I don't necessarily believe that one's matches shouldn't be given a chance just because a performer might be up there in years. That's if, of course, something new is done, something innovative and fresh, especially when it comes to two elder peformers like PCO and Rhyno, who have been in countless weapons-based matches. 

But this? No. This felt like going through the motions, something done to kill TV time. As one might expect, the match ended with a PCOsault sealing the deal for the French-Canadian Frankenstein.

#4 - Poison Picked

The other side of the Pick Your Poison exchange was, on the whole, a lot more tolerable. TNA World Champion did battle with Matt Cardona, who brought with him a team of security meant to fend off PCO should he make his presence known. This match didn't reinvent the wheel in terms of structure either, but it was a lot better paced, and worked by much more agile performers. The security team of Cardona proved to be futile, as PCO would walk out, cutting a path through them to Cardona, who, distracted, was hit with the Danger Zone, giving Nemeth the win.

PCO would carry Cardona to the back, and Frankie Kazarian, who had been on commentary for the bout, would attack Nemeth, only to be sent packing by the combined efforts of Nemeth and Joe Hendry. Determined to get the last laugh however, Kaz would announce that he had been the Special Guest Referee for the Nemeth/Hendry World title bout at Bound For Glory.

#3 - She's Alright

The latest to step through the door from NXT to TNA was Brinley Reece, taking on Ash by Elegance in singles competition this week. Elegance would attempt to bully Reece early on, only to be fought off, leading to the two trying to one-up each other with athletic feats such as different forms of pushups. I have to admit, Reece does have an energy about her that makes her fun to watch, and she's certainly not awkward in the ring. This time around however, she was simply canon fodder, as Ash managed to put her away with Rarified Air after a distraction from her Personal Concierge.

Ash and the Concierge would try to humiliate and beat down Reece after the bell, but coming to her aid and saving the day was persisent ABE rival, Xia Brookside.

#2 - Block Spun

Mike Santana just can't catch a break. He won a big battle this week, set to face Bryan Myers in singles competition, with the System sent to the back. Before the bell could be rung however, Santana had set about Myers with a steel chain, and did the same to the rest of the System, before finishing off Myers with a chain-wrapped Spin the Block. Getting on the mic, Santana would proclaim himself sick of the System, and called out Moose.

When he got no reply, he went out back, and that was where his night turned sour. Waiting backstage, Moose attacked Santana with a bat, getting the last laugh this time around.

#1 - No History Made Today

Leon Slater would look to become the youngest X-Division champion in history this week, whilst the champion in Speedball Mike Bailey simply looked to give an opportunity to a talent he saw a lot of potential in. With the title on the line, neither man held anything back here, and after a disappointing start to the show in-ringwise, this match set the ship straight and then some.

There were so many dynamics at play here, for one. Slater's newly-earned muscle gave him the strength advantage to go up against Speedball's well, speed. And this was not only that, but youth vs experience, striking vs flying, etc. Two men with similar but distinct styles did battle, and put on a match with more twists and turns than one could expect from a TV title defense. Slater clearly won Bailey's respect here, and Speedball in turn paid him the respect of hitting the Flamingo Driver after Ultima Weapon, leaving no chance of a kickout. Slater didn't become X Division champion tonight, but his time is certainly coming.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: OCTOBER 10, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Anddd We’re Back!

Starting off this week’s episode of Impact was a fun trios tag in the Knockouts division, seeing recent allies Rosemary and Wendy Choo of NXT team up with Tasha Steelz to take on Jordynne Grace, Masha Slamovich, and Sol Ruca, also of NXT. 

After a week off due to Hurricane Helene, this was the type of easy to like, fast-paced match this week needed to start with. Grace and Choo got right back into it early on, Ruca got her chance to shine at various points, and all three heels, as well as Alisha Edwards accompanying Steelz, played their part wonderfully. It’s a shame Choo isn’t signed to TNA, because her in the mix full time, able to really let go and wrestle, would be an absolute delight. The Juggernaut Driver would win this one for the faces, all of whom got big reactions from the crowd.

#4 - Fish Clash

The world title match for Bound for Glory is set, and it’ll be Nic Nemeth Vs Joe Hendry. The two shared some respectful jabs in the ring this week, both men expressing admiration for each other, but still wholly confident in their own victory come October 26th. They would be interrupted by First Class who, after running their usual self-promo schtick, would be challenged to a tag match by Nemeth against he and Hendry, a match Santino Marella would come out and make official.

In the main event, Nemeth would fight from underneath for the majority, before a Hendry hot tag managed to turn the tide. The pin and the win belonged to Nemeth however, who, after being tagged back in, would hit Hendry’s standing Ovation on KC Navarro before nailing the Famouser for the 3.

#3 - Finally

Mike Santana has been denied access to Moose for a while, ever since Moose had JDC attack Santana whilst he still held the World title. With JDC dealt with in a Texas Death match, Santana set his sights on Moose this week, calling him out. Moose, with “security” in front of him, answered Santana, saying if he’s going to fight, it needs to be on a big stage. Soon after, the System would attack Santana from behind, but coming to his aid were ABC and the Hardys. 

From the resulting brawl, we got a Santino announcement that Moose vs Santana would officially happen at BFG. And since ABC and the Hardys were in the ring already, Santino decided their scheduled tag match would happen there and then.

#2 - Plot Twist

It’s clear to anyone that the Hardys are not in the physical condition they once were. Time waits for no man, and it is taking its toll on the two icons of wrestling. That isn’t to say, however, that they are past being able to put on a good match. Much of their current TNA run has been proof they still have “it,” and tonight’s match was no exception.

It helps that their opponents were one of the most exciting, most agile and innovative teams of this generation. ABC never stop being fun to watch, and them against the Hardys felt like it deserved the “generational clash” moniker bestowed upon it by commentary. Unfortunately, the match would end when the System re-emerged, attacking both teams, wanting to face neither at BFG. Once again, however, Santino would come out, making a match with all three teams for the tag titles at BFG official.

#1 - NA (Not Narcotics Anonymous)

The Northern Armoury is the name bestowed upon the nee alliance of Sinner and Saint and Josh Alexander, and the trio got off to a hot start this week. With Alexander facing Eric Young in singles action, as a result on the NA’s attack on Young and Steve Maclin eeeks prior, the first half of the match was definitely Alexander’s game.

It wasn’t until the second half of the match that EY managed to fight back and gain momentum, but all his effort would be for naught, as Sinner and Saint’s interference would cost Young the match. A post match beatdown would follow, and then a shot of Maclin, beaten and bound backstage, before Alexander Pillmanised Young’s ankle with a knee drop off the top. This round, just as the last, goes to the Northern Armoury.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: SEPTEMBER 19, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Buckle Up

Stick with me on this one, it’s gonna take a while. Impact started with an in-ring promo from Alisha Edwards, blaming Masha Slamovich for the fact that she and Tasha Steelz lost the Malisha’s tag titles at Victory Road. Masha would make her way down to the ring, revealing she spoke and understood English, claiming to be just as sick of Alisha as every fan in attendance.

Steelz would attack Masha, and although Masha had a brief flurry of resistance, this was shut down by Alisha and Kendra the Kendo Stick. Jordynne Grace would come out to level the playing field, only to be one-upped by Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers, who were themselves followed by Matt and Jeff Hardy.

What followed was a father-daughter announcement of matches. Santino Marella would make Masha and the Hardys Vs Tasha and the System the episode’s main event, and Arianna Grace would announce Jordynne Grace and a mystery partner against Wendy Choo and Rosemary for next week.

#4 - Not Bad. Not Bad At All.

Thank you, Arianna Grace. In her second appearance of the night, Grace would provide a cure for the biggest problem facing the Knockouts tag division, that being a need for fresh faces. Sending out the team of Carlee Bright and Kendal Grey as the first challengers to the new champs, Spitfire.

I knew absolutely nothing about Grey, a former amateur wrestler, and Bright, former cheerleader, but I have to say, they put in a good showing. This wasn’t a long match by any means, but for much of the bout, the champs had to work for their win, with Grey tossing Jodie around, and Bright with some, well, bright offense, such as a cartwheel kick in the corner. This wasn’t to be their night however, as the Pressure Drop from the champs gave them a definitive first defense.

#3 - Praise Be

It isn’t only the Knockouts tag division that needed something new. I have to admit, in recent times, it has felt that the TNA men’s tag division was growing a bit stale, everyone having faced everyone before. The Hardys winning the titles at some point feels like an inevitability, but what then? What about after? To that k say, Sinner and Saint.

Making their return to TNA, this team feels so fresh, so fluid, they’re ridiculously fun to watch. Competent, fiery, and wrestling like two men with real chemistry, this wasn’t their night, but they brought their A-game. Gaining a first class win however, was First Class. I’ve been iffy on AJ Francis in the past, my tolerance of Jim fluctuating, but this pairing of him and KC Navarro just clicks so well. The Deposit, an assisted splash move by Francis and KC, looks amazing, and their clean win here tonight after a great back and forth felt earned, and natural.

These two teams are going to be tag champs in the near future. A well-needed shot in the arm.

#2 - Down, Dirty Death

A rivalry I didn’t expect to ever happen but has been brewing for quite a while, JDC and Mike Santana looked to finally settle things in a Texas Deatmatch this week. With the rules being one most score a fall against their opponent, and then keep them down for a count of 10, this was a suitably violent spectacle, with trashcans, chairs, blood and dives. 

One has to give credit to JDC. Going from a comedy wrestler to what he is now, an excellent heel, one who has proven himself time and again, and does so again tonight. He provides the perfect foil for Santana, cunning in the ways he inflicts pain. All that cunning can’t beat pure will however, as with a dive off a ladder off the stage, putting JDC through a table, Santana would win the match.

#1 - Give It Up For The Six Man Tag

Calling on an old reliable to end the show, the aforementioned six man tag of Masha and the Hardys Vs Tasha and the System closed this week’s Impact, and, admittedly, it delivered on the fun factor.

Everything just felt right in this match. Masha and the Hardys are a great trio, Tasha feels right at home with the vibe and style of the System, combine them together, and you get an entertaining if not innovative main event. The faces would win, not surprisingly, with a Swanton from Jeff Hardy, who was sporting some absolutely wicked Fiend tribute face paint.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - New Liaison, New Fan

We have a new liaison in the relationship between TNA and NXT, and her name is Arianna Grace. The daughter of Santino Marella, perfectly playing her self-absorbed, prom queen-esque persona, made the announcement of her new position, and introduced Karmen Petrovic to answer Jordynne Grace’s open challenge. This was my first time seeing Petrovic in action, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Petrovic still needs a little seasoning, don’t get me wrong, but in her match with Jordynne, which Rosemary was seen observing from the rafters, she looked capable, fluid, and bumped her ass off for Grace. The result here was, I’d argue, never in question, with Petrovic falling to a Grace Driver, but this was a fine effort.

After the bell, with Grace celebrating, the lights went out, and when they came back on, an enthusiastic Rosemary looked on with the rest of us at Grace, laid out in the middle of the ring, pillow by her head. It looks like the Demon Assassin’s recent ally, Wendy Choo, has set her sights on the Juggernaut.

#4 - System Reboot?

This week’s episode started, regrettably, with a promo from the System. From this promo, however, we got two nuggets of information. One, that in the tag match against Mike Santana and Joe Hendry, JDC’s membership in the System was on the line. If he and Moose won, he’d be a fully-fledged member. If he lost, that would be it.

Alisha Edwards, put on concussion protocol after Emergence, was gloating about not having to defend her and Masha’s tag titles, when she was interrupted by Spitfire. After initially rebuffing their rivals, a match was agreed to when Threat informed Alisha that they had gotten another shot from Santino, but with the added clause that if they lose, she and Luna will disband as a team.

#3 - Impromptu

Zachary Wentz was cutting a celebratory promo this week, thanking the fans for keeping him going and helping him climb out of a dark place. Having won the X Division title from Mike Bailey at Emergence in an Ultimate X match, the former champion would politely interrupt, informing Wentz that he would be invoking his rematch clause at Victory Road.

They would be interrupted by the Good Hands, and a tag match seeing Speedball and Wentz against the perennial perfect jobbers would commence. After a quick little back and forth affair, the UFO cutter from Wentz sealed the deal.

#2 - Impromptu, Part 2

What was meant to be the first match of the evening, Kushida Vs Laredo Kid, would soon fall to pieces due to one Josh Alexander. Having lost to Nix Nemeth at Emergence, an irate Alexander would attack Kid and Kushida, causing the match to be thrown out. Kushida could not and would not accept this, taking the fight to Alexander and demanding a match with him, right here and now. D.O.A. Marella would oblige, making the match official.

Kushida would have the advantage early on, but Alexander, through brute force, took control as the match went on. Attempting the Ankle Lock but finding no joy in it, Alexander planted his flag, and Kushida’s head, in the ground with a C4 Spike, earning a victory.

#1 - X

I’ll be honest, this week’s main event didn’t do much for me. It made sense, it was logical how it turned out-after confronting Josh Alexander earlier in the evening for his actions towards Kushida, Joe Hendry is attacked by Alexander and cost the match-but it just didn’t excite me.

What did excite me was an admittedly short affair between Eric Young and Jake Something. Both men were looking to capture some momentum here, EY trying to rebound from losing to Steve Maclin at Emergence, and frustration with his career progression very, very visible on Something. Every kickout from EY seemed to enrage the big man more and more, right from the start of the match. Something has always been aggressive, but this was, pardon the pun, something else.

Young would be able to use that rage to his advantage, getting a quick win with his Piledriver. After the bell, he would extend a hand to Something, who took it, only to take EY after the bell. Only the appearance of Maclin, a mutual respect seemingly forming between him and the World Class Maniac, saved the day.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 22, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Bad Night For The Guj

One of the joys of these Ultimate X qualifiers has been seeing debuting and returning talent, and this week, in one of said qualifiers, we got two returning competitors. Bhupinder Gujjar and Jai Vidal both looked amazing this week, moving with conviction, offense looking crisp and on target (aside from that one Vidal dive. Ooof.) And rounding out the trio, and more than holding up his end of the bargain, was Laredo Kid. This match barely left a moment to breathe, and though it would be Kid securing the win with a 450 Splash, all 3 looked like winners tonight.

(Note-the other qualifier, also a great match, was won by Hammerstone.)

#4 - When The Substitute Is Better 

In what was meant to be a six man tag seeing Xia Brookside, PCO and Rhyno against Matt Cardona, Steph De Lander and a mystery partner, a fair few surprises materialised. The first was Kon, a past ally of SDL, appearing as a tag partner for her. The second was Cardona announcing he wouldn’t be competing, and filling in for him was the returning Madman Fulton.

SDL would be extremely hesitant to get involved, leading to Kon, Fulton, and Cardona fighting this battle against PCO and Co. It was a fun, well-paced, six man tag, nothing innovative, but more than entertaining. The last surprise, at least to me, was the faces winning, with a finisher combo on Fulton allowing for the pin.

#3 - Standing (And Limping) Tall

I think anyone who hears the words “Moose and JDC Vs the Hardys” can tell you how that match is going to go. All the hype coming into the match will be behind the Matt and Jeff, they’ll have a strong start, but before long the heels will take control, and eventually Matt will hot tag Jeff. There is a formula to these things, and that is because that formula works. Carrying on their feud with the System, the Hardys put on a great main event this week, both moving well, the match never overstaying its welcome. It was a good time all around.

Jeff’s Swanton would win them the match, but after the bell they’d have to contend with a beatdown from their opponents. Mike Santana would come out to make a save, only to be intercepted by Edwards and Myers, but backup soon came in the form of Joe Hendry. Hendry made the point last week that the System has made many enemies, and that they’re all coming for them. This week, that prediction came true, with the faces standing tall to end the episode.

#2 - Demonic Militia 

Speaking of bad nights for the System, Alisha Edwards, accompanied by her tag title partner Masha Slamovich, took on the reinvigorated Rosemary this week in what was a fun affair. Alisha is just so naturally good at playing an obnoxious heel, and that as a foil for the recently reignited aggression and unorthodox offense of Rosemary made for a match that worked well thematically and offensively. 

Masha would, towards the end of the match, attempt to get involved, but in another example of the System’s chickens coming home to roost, Spitfire made the save, and the resulting chaos allowed Rosemary to hit As Above, So Below, pinning one half of the Knockouts Tag champs.

#1 - Good Graps

That’s the only way to describe my favourite match of this week. Jonathan Gresham Vs Charlie Dempsey was such a refreshing, delightfully technical affair that lived up to the name of both men. It was, in a word, nerd s**t of the best quality. 

Dempsey, this time around without the backup of the NQCC, wrestled the rough, capable style one would expect out of him, and Gresham is still, it would seem, ink and mask free, wrestling as the grappling master we all know and appreciate. Picking each other apart, playing games of one-upping each other, and just overall taking their time, this match came to an end when, after an extended test of strength on the May, Gresham was able to take away all of Dempsey’s limbs, forcing a pin.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 15, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Wedding Crasher’s Plans Crashed

Matt Cardona crashing the wedding of PCO and Steph De Lander, and then attacking PCO last week, is seemingly not going to go unpunished. Provoked into admitting his crimes by Santino Marella in the ring this week, Cardona was faced with a choice: go to jail, or face PCO at Emergence. Cardona, suddenly cowed, pledged to have his lawyers look over the contract for the match with PCO. At Emergence, it seems we’ll see the Deathmatch King Vs the French-Canadian Frankenstein.

#4 - Realest Victim

It was a rough week for Mike Santana, who, set to face Moose in singles action, was found backstage, having been attacked, with the System standing over him. The System would then proceed to the ring, cutting a standard heel promo, before Santana defiantly made his way to the ring and through the System. Though he managed to temporarily dispatch Myers, Edwards and JDC, Santana was dominated by Moose for much of the bout.

He would put up a good fight, withstanding many of the self-proclaimed Wrestling God’s biggest bombs, and even landing a few of his own, but the damage done by his attack, as well as Moose working over his arm, would prove too much to overcome. A spear would seal the deal, giving Moose the pinfall victory.

After the bell, it looked like the System might attack Santana, but Joe Hendry made the save, bringing with him a steel chair, and an announcement. That announcement was that next week, Moose and JDC will face Matt and Jeff Hardy in tag team action.

#3 - Not This Time

Tasha Steelz and Giselle Shaw looked to settle their rivalry this week, with multiple referees at ringside to ensure Steelz wouldn’t be able to resort to her usual antics that have won her victories over Shaw in the past. This would prove a prudent decision, early in the match, Steelz would go for a wrench, an attempt which was caught and stopped.

Tasha didn’t learn her lesson, and the second time, it cost her. Caught putting her feet on the ropes whilst pinning Shaw, the resulting chaos would shift the momentum to Shaw, who hit the Denouement knee strike for the win.

#2 - These Good Qualifiers

We were treated to two Ultimate X qualifiers this week, both of them treats to watch. The first saw Chris Bey, John Skyler and Riley Osborne of NXT battle, and in a match this writer expected to be all about Bey, it was Riley who got the win, hitting an absolutely beautiful Shooting Star Press to get the pin.

In the other qualifier match, Ace Austin, Rich Swann and the other, in this writer’s opinion much more talented member of the Good Hands, Jason Hotch, had a fast paced affair, one that allowed each man to shine. Surprisingly, but pleasingly, Hotch would get the win.

#1 - Wanted Overtime

For the first time in their careers, Josh Alexander and Nic Nemeth faced off in this week’s main event, both with something to prove. Alexander would look to win back the title he never lost, and prove that he, not Nemeth, is the rightful face of the company. Nemeth would attempt to prove he could hang with the likes of Alexander, and that he was not, in fact, a transitional champion.

This was Alexander’s match to lose, in control for much of it. He didn’t lose it, but neither did he win it. The two men were at a stalemate in the last few minutes, until Nemeth hit the Danger Zone. As he crawled over into the pin, the bell would ring, the 30 minute time limit expiring. Nemeth asked for 5 more minutes, while Alexander looked to walk away. It was only after kicking Nemeth in the balls that the challenger himself wanted five more minutes, and while he didn’t get it this episode, he’ll get it at Emergence, as it was announced that Alexander and Nemeth will clash again, for the world title, in a 60 minute Iron Man match.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 8, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Demonic Elegance

Answering Jordynne Grace's open challenge this week was the Demon Assassin, Rosemary, fresh off of an impressive performance last week against a local talent. Looking rejuvenated in their look and the way they wrestle, this is the most credible Rosemary has felt as a singles competitor in years, and against Grace, they gave it all. This was not a long match, but it was an intense one, with counter after counter from both women, vicious offense and a sense of importance all around. Grace really felt in danger at parts, and there was an urgency to Rosemary's offense befitting a title match.

Sadly, we wouldn't see a fitting conclusion to the bout, as Ash by Elegance, accompanied as always by her Personal Concierge, would attack both women with a pink kendo stick, causing the match to be thrown out. It would seem that despite her Slammiversary defeat, Ash is still in the title picture.

#4 - We'll Carry On

After losing an opportunity for the NXT Tag Titles this Tuesday on NXT, and being betrayed by his tag partner Wes Lee after the bout, Zachary Wentz would look to regain momentum this week in a qualifier triple threat for the X Dvision title Ultimate X match at Emergence. Wentz faced off against KC Navarro, high-flying indie stalwart who has made numerous appearences for TNA in the past, and NXT's Dante Chen. This was my first time seeing a Chen match in full, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw.

Chen is naturally charming, and quite smooth in the ropes. If he were to be booked on a path of underdog victories, as well as get a new finisher, the future would be bright for WWE's first athlete born in Singapore. Tonight was not his night however, as Wentz would pick up the win, and qualify for Ultimate X, with the UFO Cutter.

#3 - Not Quite Top Firm

After picking up a win against Gallus' Joe Coffey at NXT's Great American Bash, Joe Hendry would look to continue his momentum against the firm's enforcer, Wolfgang, in the main event of this week's episode. An athletic, brusing, versatile big man, I've been a fan of Wolfgang since my days watching NXT UK, and he and Hendry put on a great main event this week, a battle of two big, beefy men.

Wolfgang would attempt to keep it slow and painful, clubbing blows, submissions, offense on the outside. He worked over the back of Hendry, but Hendry would persevere, managing to hit his big offense such as the fallaway slam. In the end, 252 pounds of pure motivation would triumph over sadistic strength, as Hendry hit the Standing Ovation to score another win against the supposed top firm of NXT.

#2 - Risky but Successful

Speedball Mike Bailey is a glutton for punishment. Insisting on having to qualify for the Ultimate X match for his title, with the caveat that should he lose the qualifying match, he'll relinquish the X Division title, he took on two of his current tag partners this week, as Speedball, Trent Seven and Jake Something all battled for a spot in Ultimate X. Speedball Mountain would attempt teamwork early on, but this would break down, with all three men going for broke.

Everyonr got a chance to shine here, with Something presented as the most powerful threat with spots like his powerbomb catch. However, Bailey, betting on himself and not panicking, managed to get the win in the end, hitting the big man with the Cyclone Kick and Ultima Weapon to put him away.

#1 - An Octopus Never Changes Its...Ink?

The feud between Jonathan Gresham and Kushida took an interesting turn this week, as the Gresham we've become used to over the past few months, constantly masked, spitting black ink, one of few words, was nowhere to be seen. Interviewed backstage, Gresham would say he had no memory of recent times, saying he was "sick" and looking forward to getting back in action. Confronted by Kushida, who refused a handshake from Gresham, the two would go on to have the match they were meant to have at Slammiversary. And what a match it was.

If this was a trick by Gresham, we've yet to see how, as the two men simply went out and had an excellent, tightly worked, technical wrestling match. Gresham would act possibly heelish at times, such as when he claimed he couldn't break a submission after Kushida reached the ropes, as he was supposedly stuck, but there was no trace of ink here. Just good graps. Both men targeted a limb, Gresham targeting Kushida's leg, whereas Kushida went after the arm of the Octopus. It was the Timesplitter who would get the win, locking the Hoverboard Lock on Gresham and earning a quick tap out after reversing a running crossbody.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: AUGUST 1, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Hold Your Piece (Of A Cinder Block)

The wedding ceremony of PCO and Steph DeLander took place this week, or rather, it would have. With Rhyno and Xia Brookside in attendance, and Santino Marella offciating, things wouldn't go smoothly for long, as First Class would interrupt. They, however, meany no malice, with AJ Francis claiming PCO had earned his respect, and that he and Swann simply wanted to be in attendance for the wedding. They held their peace, but the returning Matt Cardona didn't, hitting PCO in the face with a cinder block. SDL, however, wasn't happy with Cardona's attack, and demanded he leave, which he did, unhappily.

#4 - She's Backkkk!

Rosemary returned to in-ring action this week, competing against local talent Kristara (I believe I'm spelling that right, correct me if I'm wrong.) With a new look of short, blonde hair, and a new entrance theme, Rosemary made short work of her opponent, though she looked the best she had in years here. Quicker than she has been, more crisp, more fluid, this was a rejuvenated Rosemary, who finished things by hitting As Above, So Below. After the match, she would place a black flower in her opponent's hands.

#3 - Hunk of C4

Josh Alexander would refuse to come to the ring to address his recent actions this week, instead giving an angry interview from backstage. Irate at the swell of support for the likes of Joe Hendry and Nic Nemeth, when it was him who carried TNA into their current era of success, Alexander would storm off. Gia Miller would be checked on by Ryan Nemeth, on the way to his match vs Frankie Kazarian. The two would put on an entertaining match, the experience of Kaz more than enough to fill in the gaps of Nemeth. 

Kaz would win in clean fashin with the Slingshot Cutter, but that wasn't the end of Nemeth's night, as Alexander would emerge, hitting him with the C4 Spike.

#2 - In Nemeth We Trust

The other Nemeth brother fared much better this week, as Nic Nemeth made his first defense of the TNA World title against the former X Division champion, Mustafa Ali. The last match of this week's episode, if not the last segment, these two underrated workers went out there and did what they did best. Brilliant in subtle ways, dazzling in others, this one would also come to a clean end, as Nemeth hit the Danger Zone to put away Ali.

#1 - Mountain Time

The reunited Rascalz looked to continue their momentum this week, facing the team of Speedball Mountain and Kushida in six man action, in tribute to the first ever TNA match. Working together as smooth as butter, this was another instance of Wentz, Miguel and Lee putting on a fast-paced banger, against some more than game opponents in Trent Seven, Kushida, and the new X Division champion, Speedball Mike Bailey. It was a close affair, but one ultimate won by the Rascalz, nailing Hot Fire Flame to get the pin.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JULY 18, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Malisha Misfire

Weeks ago, the interference of Alisha Edwards allowed Masha Slamovich to win her singles match against Xia Brookside. This week, Xia would look for revenge, facing Alisha in singles action, in theory at least. The reason the phrase "in theory" is in use here is because Alisha was accompanied by her tag partner Masha, and once Alisha lost control of the match, after dominating for a while with heelish, disrespectful offense, Masha would look to get involved.

This wouldn't end how the Malisha thought it would however, as arriving to stop the interference was the team challenging Malisha for their titles at Slammiversary, Spitfire. Neutralising Masha, this would shift the bout in favour of Xia, who managed to hit a Brooksie Bomb on Alisha for the win.

#4 - Victory In Defeat

After costing Mike Santana his spot in the world title match at Slammiversary, JDC was in Santana's crosshairs this week as the two faced off. This was a suprisingly fun match, with JDC, fka Dirty Dango, getting to showcase just how capable a worker he can be outside of his comedy schtick, giving Santana what felt like a real challenge to deal with. Santana would ultimately lose the match by DQ, frustration getting the better of him, nailing JDC with a steel chair repeatedly. Security would come out and try to pry him away, but Santana would fight them off, hitting Spin the Block on JDC to end the segment with the visual win, if not the literal one.

#3 - A Not So Triumphant Return

For the first time in 7 years, Matt and Jeff Hardy teamed together in a TNA ring, facing the System's Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards for the TNA tag titles this week. The match was waht you'd expect, very solid work from all four men, with a crowd quite clearly thrilled to see the Hardys back in action. It looked like the brothers would win the match and the titles, when JDC knocked Jeff off the top rope mid-Swanton attempt. This would cause a DQ ( a recurring finish this evening, for some reason) and set the table for a beatdown of the Hardys, which included Jeff's throat being Pillmanised, causing Jeff to be taken away in an ambulance.

It's worth noting that Jeff wasn't the only Hardy who was attacked by JDC this evening, as in the opening moments of his match with Santana, we learnt that he had also attacked Reby Hardy.

#2 -Timesmokers

The chaos-causing No Quarter Catch Crew were forced to fight some of TNA’s own this week, as the team of the Rascalz and Kushida, dubbed the Timesmokers by commentary, defended TNA’s honour against the trio. Kushidas was selected for his own time in NXT, and would take the onslaught of the offense in this very fun, breezy, easy watch of a bout. 

The Rascalz have been heels for so long, it’s easy to forget just how fun they are as faces, and they delivered the energetic performance of a lifetime here against a very game NQCC. All that energy couldn’t save them from interference however, as Jonathan Gresham would arrive on scene, for some reason wearing a singlet, luring away Kushida. From here, the numbers game would prove too much, and a combo ending in a Butterfly Suplex on Wentz gave the invading force lead by Charlie Dempsey the win.

#1 - Four Men And A Campaign Aide

This might not have been the best segment from this week’s episode, but it was certainly my favourite. It had the kind of cheesy, earnest vibe that makes TNA so special at times, and really solidified Speedball Mike Bailey as a natural-feeling challenger to Mustafa Ali.

Enraged by Ali’s attack on Trent Seven-an attack he was forced to watch-Speedball looked to avenge his tag partner, not wanting to wait until Slammiversary. Taking the ring and demanding the presence of Ali, Ali would oblige via titantron promo, where he told Speedball that if he won the Secret Service Gauntlet, he’d get what he wanted.

Speedball would, with visible pleasure, clear through four security guards, as well as Campaign Singh, winning the gauntlet. Two Riot Squad members would walk down to the ring, one attacking Speedball from behind. This would be revealed to be Ali, would forced the referee to count a symbolic pinfall against Speedball. After the match, Ali would try to claim their Slammiversary encounter as being called off, but Santino Marella reaffirmed that it was still happening, and voiced his wish that Speedball kick Ali’s ass.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JULY 11, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Down Payment

Remeber when Joe Hendry made the Digital Media title feel like it was something important? I sure do. Currently held by AJ Francis, it was defended this week in what I can only describe as a quiet fart of a segment. Francis was facing Rhyno, but the match ended before it really got going, Rich Swann getting involved and causing a DQ. First Class would attempt a beatdown on Rhyno, but Santino Marella would come out and restart the match, as a Philadelphia Street Fight. This itself would not last long either, because though Rhyno got a flurry of offense in, he would be rolled up after being hit with a low blow.

After the bell, the beatdown resumed. This would be cut off by PCO, Franicis's opponent at Slammiversary, who would take out Swann and attempt to take out Francis, but a chokeslam on the ramp, dubbed the Down Payment, left Francis standing tall at the end of the segment.

#4 -  A Very Short Whodunnit

It was heavily hinted at the end of last week's episode that Frankie Kazarian was the one who attacked Nic Nemeth off camera. This week's episode picked up where last week left off, with Ryan Nemeth confronting Kaz. Kaz would soon after be confronted by Nic, and the two brawled, until security seperated them, Kaz making a run for it, though he would show his face again later in this week's episode, playing a vital role in the week's main event, where he helped the heel team, Moose and Steve Maclin, win against Joe Hendry and Josh Alexander.

#3 - Black vs Green

It's House of the Dragon season, but in this case of the Blacks vs the Greens, it's black ink vs green mist. Kushida has been a thorn in Jonathan Gresham's side for weeks. helping Sami Calliahn defeat Gresham, and searching for a "cure" for the ink Gresham likes to split. This, combined with Ali getting cold feet regarding his X Division title challenge to Speedball Mike Bailey, lead to a No 1 Contender Triple Threat this week, and what a match it was. Built around the other two taking the fight to Gresham, and respectfully fighting each other, this was a fun, fast-paced affair with no filler included, or necessary. 

The end would come with the aforementioned green mist, which Kushida used to counter the black ink by Gresham. Kushida would then lock in the Hoverboard Lock, and Speedball would hit Ultima Weapon on Gresham, knocking both men down. One pinfall on a certain Octopus later, Speedball was cemented as Ali's challenger at Slammiversary.

#2 - Unexpected Delight

I wasn't aware Tasha Steelz and Giselle Shaw would be facing off this week, but what a gem it was. Steelz continues to be the most underrated star in TNA's Knockouts division, and Shaw's face turn, so far at least, has been great fun to watch. Seeing Shaw get to let loose and try more impressive offense in-ring has been so refreshing, and seeing her fight from underneath, against an aggresive to the point of attacking Shaw mid-entrance Steelz, proves how versatile she is.

Shaw and Steelz fought a close, hard-hitting bout, but Shaw would emerge victorius after hitting the Denouement.

#1 - No Quarter Given

After attacking the Rascalz and Leon Slater in a shock attack last week, Charlie Dempsey faced Zachary Wentz this week, looking to make a statment in front of a new audience. This was another brief but brilliant bout, and continues the NXT/TNA partnership well. Wentz tries to play the speed game early on, but Dempsey catches him out and works over his arm. Dempsey is brutal in his control for a while, but Wentz eventually fights back, to the point that he tried to go for the UFO Cutter. When Wentz did so, Myles Borne, of Dempsey's group the No Quarter Catch Crew, attacked Trey Miguel at ringside, and Dempsey was able to counter the cutter into a Dragon Suplex to win the match.

Dempsey would address the Rascalz backstage, saying he used their own tactics against them to win. Santino Marella would arrive on scene, and make a six man tag for next week, with the NQCC to face Migeul, Wentz, and a suitable partner from the TNA roster.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JULY 4, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Misfire for Spitfire

Falling into a slump after losing the Knockouts Tag titles, Spitfire have been getting back on track as of late, the guidance of Lars Frederiksen helping them regain their mojo. Despite scoring a few impressive wins however, Lars wasn’t convinced the team were ready for their title rematch yet, and ordered them into a 10 minute match with each other, with the goal of knowing their partner as well as themselves.

The duo made the most of their 10 minutes, Luna pulling ahead early, willing to hit a little harder than Threat, but by the end of the match, both women were giving it their all. The time limit expired as both women lay hurting after Threat kicked out of a Superplex/Falcon Arrow Combo. Pleading for five more minutes, they instead received a beatdown from the reigning champs, the Malisha, likely setting up the title match for Slammiversary.

#4 I Didn’t Think I’d Get This Far

Speaking of Slammiversary, the Road to Slammiversary qualifying matches, deciding who will be part of the six man elimination match for the World Title at the event, continued this week, with the first of said matches being Frankie Kazarian Vs Mike Santana. The veteran craftiness of Kaz Vs Santana’s will and explosive power, this was a great game of cat and mouse, that at times felt more like a matador and a bull, Kaz baiting Santana into mistakes and close calls. The end of the match, however, was unexpected.

Moose had said to Johnny Dango Curtis that one man in the qualifying matches worried him, and this apparently was Mike Santana, as interference from JDC ended up costing Santana the match. Pushed into the ring post when the ref wasn’t watching, Santana staggered to his feet, bleeding while doing so, but was unable to make it back into the ring before 10, meaning, for once, the heel won by count out, and also that Kaz advances to the title match at Slammiversary.

#3 - Don’t Trust the System

This week, for the first time in eight years, Reby Hardy fought in a wrestling ring, competing alongside her husband Matt against Eddie and Alisha Edwards. Prompted by Reby being caught in the crossfire over the last few weeks due to Matt’s war with the System, the two husband and wife teams squared off this week, with, for once, karma biting the Edwards family in the ass.

The Hardys had the advantage early on, Alisha avoiding Reby, Matt dominating Eddie. Momentum would shift towards Eddie and Alisha for most of the match, the interference of Brian Myers playing a factor, but eventually, Myers would be ejected from ringside, and soon after, Alisha’s arguing with and distracting the referee let Reby land a low blow on Eddie. Two Twists of Fate later, The Hardys were your victors.

#2 - Folded Like An Accordion 

This week’s edition of Impact started off with a match between Trey Miguel, accompanied as always by Zachary Wentz, and the Youngest in Charge, Leon Slater. The two were having a very competitive, exciting match, until a one man wrecking crew in the form of Charlie Dempsey showed up.

Knocking Slater off the top turnbuckle, laying out Wentz, stomping out Miguel, and even suplexing the ref, Dempsey laid waste to everyone in sight, and would finish his attack by locking a disgusting Modified Bow and Arrow, before standing down and walking away when security showed up.

#1 - We Believe In Something 

The final Road to Slammiversary qualifier, Joe Hendry Vs Jake Something, main-evented this week’s show, and what a main event it was. A battle of two big, ridiculously strong men, the crowd were, without a doubt, behind Hendry, but Something wasn’t unloved either. Most notable of the match was Something’s usual explosive speed and power, and the feats of strength from Hendry. An early stalling suplex, a Fallaway Slam, and lastly an all time great Standing Ovation, and Hendry got the win. Cutting a fiery promo after the match, Hendry pledged to become the face of TNA at Slammiversary.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JUNE 27, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Mobilise the Malisha 

After a confrontation between Jordynne Grace and Ash by Elegance started the show, our first match of the evening would be Masha Slamovich, accompanied by her tag partner Alisha Edwards, Vs Xia Brookside. An interesting clash of styles and personalities, this was a fun, tightly worked match to kick things off.

While the two would traps holds to start, Masha’s aggression came through in the form of hair whips, strikes and suplexes. Xia would endeavour to fight through, even seeming to have Masha’s number at certain points, but each time, interference from Alisha saved Russian Dynamite. After knocking Alisha off the apron in one such example of interference, Xia would turn around into the Snow Plow, and Masha would get the pin and the win.

#4 - Frontman Fumbles

Alan Angels was back in action this week, against the also returning Kushida. Looking to get back on track after his encounters with Jonathan Gresham’s black ink, Kushida made short work of Angels, who despite rushing his opponent at the start of the match and trying to take control, was outclassed by the Timesplitter. After scoring a submission win with the Hoverboard Lock, Kushida would be attacked by a suit-clad Gresham, who was pulled away by security before he could ahain infect Kushida with the black ink.

#3 - Wanted In First Class

In one of two Road to Slammiversary matches from this week, Nic Nemeth took on Rich Swann of First Class in the evening’s main event. A video package playing for both men before the bout, with respect exchanged between the two opponents, this was as good as you’d expect. Swann as a heel has been delightfully refreshing, and Nemeth meshed perfectly with Swann, keeping pace and selling his ass off. The win would, as most would expect, go to Nemeth, but neither man would have looked bad in defeat here.

#2 - Front Towards Death Machine 

In the other Road to Slammiversary match of the evening, Sami Callihan battled Steve Maclin in what was an intensely physically, closely fought affair.

Full of stiff strikes, near falls and a palpable tension, the two wasted no time going after each other, a Busaiku Knee and Cactus Special hit within the first minute of the match. Maclin would win the day here, enduring multiple Cactus Specials as well as a Death Valley Driver off the turnbuckles to hit the KIA for the pin.

#1 - 2 Sweet Not To Be Champs

I did not expect to enjoy this match as much as I did. A triple threat tag match, featuring ABC, the Rascalz and Cody Deaner and Jake Something, this match hit all the right beats and turned what was on paper, a filler match designed to give ABC momentum before claiming their title rematch, into the most fun to watch match of the night.

Everyone just did their jobs, and did them well, though the MVP of the match was, as he often is, the aforementioned Mr Something, whose power, agility and innovative use of both made for some ridiculously enjoyable spots towards the end of the bout. Countering a hurricanrana twice into a powerbomb, as well as a dive into a Gourdbuster, Something neutralised the Rascalz, but was unable to neutralise ABC, who would stun him long enough to hit the 1 2 Sweet on Deaner to get the win.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JUNE 20, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Finally

Well folks, we're here. Something interesting has finally happened with Ash By Elegance. I mean no insult to Xia Brookside when I say that-in fact I think the two should revisit their feud in future if Ash ends up with the title-but it's been clear from the start that this was the destination in mind. ABE vs Jordynne Grace. 

After defeating Heather Reckless in her usual brand of squash match, Ash would attack her opponent further, and would even set up to hit the Juggernaut Driver, before the champ came done to the ring and broke things up. Grace would lay the beatdown on Ash, but Ash ended the segment on top, a distraction from the Personal Concierge allowing for Ash to hit Grace in the face with the Knockouts title.

#4 - Exposition Opener

Loathe as I often am to discuss promos in these reviews, this week's opening address from the System camr with some noteworthy moments and news. The first of said moments was the explanation of the newly rechristened Johnny Dango Curtis, who explained why he came to the System's aid in Moose'se title defence against Matt Hardy at Against All Odds. Though not officially part of the System, just an ally, he has thrown his lot in with the Edwards, Myers, and Moose.

One step forward, and two steps back however, as out would come Santino Marella. He would announce the Road to Slammiversary series, qualifying matches for a six man elimination World Title match at the aforementioned show. 

(The first of which would take place later in the evening, being Josh Alexander Vs Eric Young. It isn’t on here but it’s just as good as anything else on the list if not better. Alexander would win with the C4 Spike to advance.)

#3 - Consistency

You’ve got to love it, you really do. Continuing their arc of regaining their confidence before claiming their title rematch, Spirefirr would have their first match as a team since losing the titles this week, facing former NWA women’s tag champs, the Hex. This was a great challenge for the team, facing a more well-oiled machine, a more experienced duo. They would need something big and better to succeed.

But succeed they did. With a new speed, new chemistry, and new set of tag combos to boot, Spitfire were relentless against their opponents, getting the win after a compact back and forth. They didn’t always have the upper hand, but they won decisively. I personally can’t wait for their rematch with the Malisha.

#2 - Huh.

It is entirely possible that Ryan Nemeth has, up until this point in his career, just been cast in the wrong role. Don’t get me wrong, the Hollywood presentation suits him, and he pulls it off well. No, what I mean is, he should never have been a heel when he’s so naturally good and fiery as a babyface. While not all credit can go to Nemeth, as JDC, put into this match by Santino Marella earlier in the night, puts in a great shift here, reslly doing as much as he can with the brief time provided to make Nemeth look good.

Nemeth looked good, but JDC walked away with the win, hitting the Last Dance to seal the deal. After the bell, he, Myers and Eddie Edwards would stomp out Nemeth until his brother Nic made the save.

#1 - Huh Part 2.

I did not go into this match with…any expectations really, other than it perhaps being a bit of a slog, but one that Kaz might be able to pull around. I admit, I don’t know much about Ace Steel outside of his alleged involvement in a certain backstage brawl down in AEW, but I have to say, he really held his weight and was as crucial to the quality of this match as Kaz was.

Yes Kaz bumped his ass off when needed, yes he played the arrogant heel well, yes he wrestled as cunjingly as a man of his experience should, but Steel was on fire. There’s no other way to describe it. Great selling, all of his offence looked crisp, and the little touches, like him attempting one last swing at Kaz before being picked up for the Fade to Black on the pile oc chairs, really added that much more. Kaz would win, but as would be a theme for the heels of this episode, he wouldn’t walk away standing tall.

Locking in the Crossface Chickenwing after the bout, Kaz would be sent packing by recent friend and student of Steel, and fellow Kaz hater, Joe Hendry, who hit a Standing Ovation on the King of TNA to save his friend.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JUNE 13, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Something Else Now, Please

I’ll admit, Ash by Elegance has improved a lot in-ring. And while I find her gimmick a little goofy, she commits to it. But it feels like she’s been stuck in limbo for months. This week, she faced Jada Stone in singles action, capitalising on the momentum gained from helping cost Jordynne Grace her match at NXT Battleground. It was a short affair, one Ash dominated and won. Jada got her moments, and would be a great addition to the roster, but it was pretty cut and dry.

Something else now please?

#4 - Masha Deserves Better

I will say, most of this match is pretty. Marti Belle, at least on this year’s showings, looks a lot better than she has in past years, more fluent and crisp. Masha, meanwhile, as this solo force, flying the flag of her team while Alisha was off at the Hardy Compound, has more of an aura of danger about her than she’s had in ages. A one woman army. Masha was dominating much of this match, but after she decided to get a revenge shot on Allysin Kay, this gave Marti Belle enough time to sneak up on Masha, rolling her up for the win. Great match, awful finish for one as dominant as Masha.

#3 - Click Click Oh

Back as a team and with a new colour scheme, ABC were in control for much of this week’s main event. Facing the Nemeth brothers, who were set to challenge for the tag titles at Against All Odds, the earned chemistry and experience as a team of ABC meant they were able to keep Nic isolated for quite a while, following classic tag structure and building and building to that hot tag.

Once that happened, the tags between the brothers became more frequent, but so did the cutoffs from their opponents. Still in control by the end, luck and timing spelled the end for ABC, when Bey ate a Flatliner/Danger Zone combo.

#2 - Fly the Block

Ahead of a tag collision at Against All Odds, Zachary Wentz and Mike Santana battled in a fast pace singles bout to open the show. Wentz was accompanied by Trey Miguel, but by their standards, this was a very interference-free match. Santana played the powerhouse, Wentz the agile, cocky heel, and everything just…clicked. Santana would get the win by catching Wentz mid air with Spin the Block.

#1 - The Water is Wonderful

I’m not gonna bother describing the latest Hardy cinematic match, because one can never really put affairs like these into words that capture the vibe. Entertaining, eccentric, just go watch it.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: JUNE 6, 2025 RESULTS

#5 - Well That Was Something 

Who doesn’t love big meaty men smacking meat? If you do, you’d enjoy this week’s opening match, which saw the Baddest Man (Read: Jobber) in TNA, Kon, face Jake Something. This match, in this writer’s opinion, worked because of how brief it was. It didn’t overstay its welcome, nor was it filled to the brim with time-killing antics. It knew what it was, an explosion, two powerful men wearing each other down quickly and brutally, and it delivered on that.

The standout moments of the match were the trading of the lariats, which were suitably stiff, and the finish, which after a series of reversals, saw Something hit Into the Void for the win. That wasn’t the end of things however, as an irate Kon would try to snap Something’s neck after the bell, only go TNA legend Eric Young to make the save.

#4 - She’s Backkkk!

From one TNA legend to another, Gail Kim looked on as Gisele Shaw, the newly christened Quintessential Knockout, made her return this week. With new music, new moves, and more energy than we’ve seen from her in ages, Shaw looked great against Shazza McKensie here, who did a great job herself in bumping, and providing a scrappy challenger for the returning Shaw. She would, however, eat the Denouement knee strike to give Shaw the pinfall victory.

#3 - AK Silenced

There is perhaps no woman in the wrestling business with more buzz around her right now than Jordynne Grace, and this week she’d look to continue her momentum by facing the other half of the Hex, former Knockouts champion Allysin Kay. Accompanied by her partner Marti Belle, who Grace previously, Kay made for a good, tall opponent for Grace to fight from underneath against, but ultimately, the result of the match was never in question. As it has for so many, the Juggernaut Driver spelled the end for Kay.

#2 - 20 Years On

This week was the 20th anniversary of Impact as a weekly show, and the man who closed that first episode, Frankie Kazarian, would be in the main event 20 years later, facing Nic Nemeth. The two workers, both of them under-appreciated, talented pliers of their craft, put on a great match, but the most noteworthy events occurred after the bell.

Having been promised a world title shot if he took out Nemeth, the System must have seen that if you want something to be done right, you have to do it yourself. Chaos erupted, and eventually, Joe Hendry would try to come to the aid of the Nemeth brothers, only to suffer a beatdown by the System, who stood tall to end the show.

#1 - Landslide Victory

The best match of the night by far, however, was Speedball Mountain against Campaign Singh and Mustafa Ali. Ahead of Ali’s PPV encounter with Trent Seven for the X Division title, he avoided Seven, and indeed Mike Bailey, as much as he could in this match, letting Singh take the brunt of the action. Following some classic face/heel structure, but doing it well, this was a thrilling watch.

It was that fear of Seven that decided the match, as at the end, Seven hoisted up Singh for Birminghammer. Ali would look to slide in, but ended up getting stared down by Seven, leaving his tag partner to eat the finisher and the pin, for the faces to take the day.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 30, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Please No

Steph De Lander is a talented wrestler. As is PCO. This is not the best use of their time. What, you might be asking, isn’t a good use of their time? A love angle, that’s what. SDL was facing Xia Brookside this week, in what was a well-worked match, and when SDL went for a weapon outside, holding onto it, under the ring, was PCO.

He would save SDL from a dive by Xia, catching her, but this distraction would end up with SDL getting rolled up by Xia for the win. After the bell, PCO presented SDL with said love letter.

#4 - Ooze Infection

With the match’s referee masked up by order of Santino Marella, the man infecting the TNA roster with…something, Jonathan Gresham, took on Sami Callihan this week in singles action. Callihan was, unlike some other members of the roster, unafraid of Gresham, and was his usual bold, brash self throughout the match. Callihan got the most damage on Gresham since the Octopus returned, even managing to land a Cactus Driver on the apron.

Callihan was dominating to the point that Gresham needed to, upon the referee taking his eyes off the action, cowering from the black ooze that had gotten in Callihan’s hand after he blocked Gresham attempting to use it, hit Callihan in what Taz would call the yambag region, before rolling the Death Machine up with a sunset flip for the win.

The New Jonathan Gresham isn’t invincible. Cracks are starting to show.

#3 - Oh, You Rascalz

Mike Santana and Steve Maclin had their second encounter, a rematch from Rebellion, this week, a match that was on track to be every bit as good as the first, right up until the interference from those Ohio boys, the Rascalz.

Having been attacked by Maclin multiple times in the past few weeks as part of the ongoing tension between the two sides after their brief alliance broke down, Wentz and Miguel struck back here, interrupting the match and laying waste to both Maclin and Santana. 

They’ve won the battle, but something suggests they won’t win the war.

#2 - Will He, Won’t He

Some people talk their problems out. But Ace Austin and Chris Bey aren’t some people. They’re wrestlers. Proposed by Austin last week, this match, meant to be an outlet for the tension between the pair before they sue their contractual rematch for the tag titles, was story of familiarity and frustration, hesitance and anger. As Bey says to Austin, “This is what you wanted.”

Bey got the upper hand in the earlier exchanges, which made Austin irritable, starting a trend of the two exchanging strikes. Before long the action was free-flowing and fluid, drawing equal, before Bey got the win by countering an attempted bridging pin by Austin into a crucifix pin for the 1, 2, 3. After the match, at several points, such as in hesitating to congratulate Bey, and suddenly moving at Bey when Bey was climbing out of the ring, it looked like Austin might attack Bey, but no such attack happened. Not on this day.

#1 - Trust In Joe Hendry

Containing his wave of momentum, tonight’s main event saw the man who topped the charts, Joe Hendry, take on Eddie Edwards. While normally in an Edwards match, interference might be a concern, the presence of Brian Myers and Alisha Edwards at ringside was neutralised by that of the Nemeth brothers.

Standard fare in terms of structure but done well, this entertaining main event came to an end when Hendry caught Edwards whilst Edwards was attempting the Boston Knee Party, hitting the Standing Ovation for the win.

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: MAY 23, 2024 RESULTS

#5 - Useful If Nothing Else

I’ll be honest, this week’s opening match did nothing for me. Broken Matt Hardy and Ryan Nemeth Vs the System was such a clear cut example of going through the motions bland wrestling that I struggled to focus on it. It did, however, facilitate a few cool things. The first would be Nic Nemeth returning to save the faces from a Systme beatdown after they’d unexpectedly won the match, and the second being that win earning Nic and Ryan a tag title match at the next big show.

#4 -We Hardly Knew Ye

Tonight’s Knockouts title match didn’t go wrong. Less than ten minutes, actually. Those hoping the returning Marti Belle would put in a good showing will be disappointed, as despite getting some offense in, she was dispatched like all the others with the Juggernaut Driver by Grace.

After the bell however, Belle’s partner, Allysin Kay, would attack Grace, and together, a Hex Marks the Spot would make it so the heels stood tall over the champ.

#3 - Righteous Rascalz

It’s always fun when wrestlers clearly meant to be enhancement talent exceed expectations. I don’t think there was any doubt in the mind of the viewers that the Rascalz would defeat Saint and Sinner this week, but the lesser know duo certainty made the most of their minutes. Innovative combos at a thrilling pace, perfect strokes, Saint and Sinner would be a good get for TNA’s tag division. In the end, after a close call, the Rascalz buckled down, and hit their Stomp/Backbreaker combo for the win. 

After the bell, the Rascalz would quickly be laid out by Steve Maclin, who, being interviewed backstage, was confronted by Mike Santana, with the two setting up a match for next week.

#2 - Boricua Beatdown

In the second Knockouts match of the evening, Jody Threat would look to get some momentum and improvement against the Best to beat the Best, Tasha Steelz. Jody gave it her usual energetic effort, but Steelx was ahead of her almost the entire way. Eye takes, excellent counters, Steelz outthought Jody. Jody had a chance to win late in the match, but wanted to make things certain by hitting her F5. This would backfire however, and Steelz would soon hit a cutter for be he win.

#1 - Oh Good Heavens

In this week’s main event, with a shot at the X Divisuon title on the line, partners became opponents as Trent Seven and Speedball Mike Bailey faced off in singles action. Keeping it (mostly) respectful, bacj chops aside, the two battled nobly but fiercely, with apron slams, strike exchanges and fast-paced action being the name of the day.

Around halfway through the match, X Division Champion Mustafa Ali, accompanied by his security detail, would join commentary, and that would factor into the match’s finish. Accidentally eating a boot from Bailey meant for Seven, Ali would try to get involved later in the match, to no avail. This however would prove enough distraction for Champagne Singh to attack Bailey on the turnbuckles. Seven didn’t see the interference, but capitalised nonetheless, hitting the Birminghammer for the win.
