This list tracks the most notable official babyface turns and heel turns that happened in WWE during the year 2009.
Keep in mind: when a babyface attacks another babyface, that is usually a heel turn. When a heel attacks another heel, it does not automatically make the victim a babyface. The follow-up presentation matters just as much as the initial attack.
WWE HEEL & FACE TURNS IN 2009:
- January 16 - MVP turned babyface on SmackDown by finally breaking his losing streak, qualifying for the Royal Rumble and shifting away from the heel losing-streak character into a more sympathetic comeback role.
- January 19 - Mr. McMahon turned babyface on Raw by returning in support of Stephanie McMahon during the McMahon family feud with Randy Orton and Legacy.
- January 25 - Matt Hardy turned heel at Royal Rumble by hitting Jeff Hardy with a chair during Jeff's WWE Championship match against Edge, directly costing his brother the title.
- January 26 - Shane McMahon turned babyface on Raw by going after Randy Orton and Legacy following Orton's attack on the McMahon family.
- February 10 - Christian turned babyface on ECW by returning to WWE as a babyface opposite Jack Swagger and quickly entering the ECW Championship picture.
- March 17 - Nikki Bella turned heel on ECW by laughing at Brie Bella's misfortune and fighting with her sister during the Bella Twins split.
- March 23 - Santino Marella turned babyface on Raw by leaning fully into the comedic "Santina" / Miss WrestleMania direction, moving away from his prior heel role.
- April 27 - Nikki Bella turned babyface on Raw by reuniting with Brie Bella and helping her during a match, ending the short Bella Twins split.
- May 1 - John Morrison turned babyface on SmackDown after the draft split him from The Miz and put him opposite Chris Jericho, with Jericho slapping Morrison during their confrontation.
- June 28 - CM Punk turned heel at The Bash by escalating his feud with Jeff Hardy and leaning into the self-righteous Straight Edge character after cashing in Money in the Bank on Hardy earlier in the month.
- June 29 - Mark Henry turned babyface on Raw by moving to the Raw brand and immediately being presented against Randy Orton rather than continuing as a heel.
- July 6 - Carlito turned heel on Raw by attacking Primo after The Colons lost a tag team match, breaking up the former Unified WWE Tag Team Champions.
- July 7 - Shelton Benjamin turned babyface on ECW by abandoning heel partner Zack Ryder during a tag team match, starting his shift away from the villain role.
- August 14 - Matt Hardy turned babyface on SmackDown by saving Jeff Hardy and John Morrison from an attack by CM Punk and The Hart Dynasty.
- October 25 - Batista turned heel at Bragging Rights by attacking Rey Mysterio after their World Heavyweight Championship fatal four-way match with The Undertaker and CM Punk.
- November 2 - Chris Masters turned babyface on Raw by shifting into the pec-dancing comedy character, which moved him away from the heel presentation he had before.
- November 23 - Kane turned babyface on Raw by reuniting with The Undertaker against Big Show and Chris Jericho.
- November 27 - Luke Gallows turned heel on SmackDown by debuting/reemerging alongside CM Punk and joining what became the Straight Edge Society
