WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN spoilers and results for the September 4, 2026 episode. This week's SmackDown was taped in advance on Friday, August 28 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio after WWE's live television broadcast.

Below are spoilers from the taping with match winners, promo notes, backstage segments and other noteworthy developments scheduled to air on Friday's episode.

FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN SPOILERS & RESULTS: SEPTEMBER 4, 2026

• Gunther, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens opened SmackDown with an in-ring segment as the four continued jockeying for position around CM Punk and the Undisputed WWE Championship.
• CM Punk spoke with Nick Aldis backstage and offered Johnny Gargano an Undisputed WWE Championship match later in the show. Gargano emerged from his storyline comatose state to accept the opportunity and return to action.
• Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley were featured together in a backstage interview.
• Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley defeated Fatal Influence in a non-title tag team match.
• Nikki Bella was interviewed backstage in a segment that also involved Paige as their issues continued following Nikki's recent attack.
• Gunther met with Nick Aldis backstage until Danhausen joined the conversation and referred to Gunther as "Gooner."
• WWE Women's Champion Chelsea Green joined Nick Aldis in the ring and was officially medically cleared. Nia Jax and Lash Legend interrupted, with the confrontation resulting in Jax receiving a championship opportunity against Green in Mexico City.
• Nia Jax defeated Tiffany Stratton by pinfall.
• Kevin Owens was interviewed backstage.
• Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton sat down with Corey Graves for another interview ahead of their match at Sunday Night's Main Event.
• Trick Williams and Lil Yachty appeared together for a segment that included the premiere of a Lil Yachty music video. United States champion Baron Corbin was shown reacting afterward as the build continued toward his five-minute challenge against Yachty at Sunday Night's Main Event.
• Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki) defeated The Miz and Kit Wilson by pinfall. Nakamura and Kyoki officially competed under the Bakusai team name, and MFT appeared following the match as their rivalry with the WWE Tag Team Champions continued.
• The War Raiders, R-Truth and Damian Priest were featured in promos surrounding the WWE tag team division.
• Rey Fenix was interviewed backstage.
• Blake Monroe vs Giulia never officially started. Giulia attacked Monroe before the opening bell, returning the favor after Monroe prevented their previous scheduled match from taking place.
• Johnny Gargano and Sami Zayn had a backstage interaction before Gargano's championship opportunity.
• Undisputed WWE Championship Match: CM Punk (c) defeated Johnny Gargano to retain the title. Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Gunther were all involved around ringside during the main event. After retaining, Punk turned his attention to Sami Zayn and challenged him to an Undisputed WWE Championship match in Mexico City.
