WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS: SEPTEMBER 18, 2026

• Sami Zayn opened the show alongside SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and gloated about becoming a two-time Undisputed WWE Champion. Zayn said his challengers should be forced to overcome the same obstacles he had to deal with. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae interrupted, with Gargano reminding Zayn that he expected a championship opportunity in exchange for helping him. Zayn tried to claim he had never actually promised a title match. Kevin Owens then came out, hit Gargano with a Stunner and made his own case for a shot. After Zayn put his hands on Aldis while protesting, Aldis made Zayn vs Owens official for the main event.
• Men's Money in the Bank Triple Threat Qualifying Match: Trick Williams defeated Randy Orton and Rey Fenix by pinfall to qualify for Money in the Bank. Orton caught Fenix with an RKO as Fenix came off the ropes, but Trick immediately blasted Orton with the Trick Shot and pinned the already-down Fenix to steal the victory.
• Sami Zayn found Johnny Gargano backstage and apologized for the misunderstanding over Gargano's promised title shot. Zayn then pointed out that Gargano would never get that opportunity if Owens took the championship from him tonight, clearly trying to convince Gargano to help him retain.
• Tatum Paxley lit candles backstage to bring Alexa Bliss good luck ahead of her Money in the Bank qualifier. Charlotte Flair was dismissive and accidentally blew out one that Paxley said was specifically supposed to prevent bad luck.
• Non-Title Tag Team Match: Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki) defeated WWE Tag Team Champions The MFTs (Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga) by disqualification. Haku struck Nakamura with his Tongan walking stick while the referee was watching, forcing the disqualification. The MFTs continued attacking Bakusai afterward, with Talla chokeslamming Kyoki onto the apron and combining with Tama to leave him down.
• Kevin Owens talked about Hilliard Center being the building where he defeated John Cena in his first WWE main roster match and predicted another major victory by beating Sami Zayn. Finn Balor interrupted and questioned how convenient it was that Owens helped Zayn win the championship last week and immediately received a title shot. Balor said if he has to win Money in the Bank to earn his opportunity "the right way," then that is what he will do.
• Nick Aldis congratulated WWE Women's Champion Chelsea Green on proving herself with her successful defense last week. Danhausen appeared with Aldis's phone and relayed that Gunther was angry. Tiffany Stratton told Green that she has a Money in the Bank qualifying match coming up, which Green welcomed because she could then pursue another championship. Nikki Bella confronted Green and declared that she is coming after the WWE Women's Championship, arguing that she does not need to qualify for anything because she is already a legend and an icon.
• Michael Cole sat down with Cody Rhodes to discuss his loss to Randy Orton at Sunday Night's Main Event. Cody acknowledged that he hesitated when he had the opportunity to Punt Orton and refused to make excuses for it. Cole pointed out how many of the people who once celebrated Cody's WrestleMania 40 victory have since betrayed him. Cody admitted that he may have been naive to believe things would be different with him as champion, but defended the uncompromising approach that led him to his biggest accomplishments. Cody said that when he finds himself in that situation with Orton again, he will not make the same decision.
• B-Fab and Michin told Jade Cargill that they intend to pursue the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Cargill supported them and said she was focused on winning Money in the Bank and getting back to the WWE Women's Championship herself.
• Women's Money in the Bank Triple Threat Qualifying Match: Women's United States Champion Jacy Jayne defeated Alexa Bliss and Jade Cargill by pinfall on Bliss to qualify for Money in the Bank. Bliss hit Sister Abigail on Jayne and appeared to have the match won until Cargill stopped the count. Cargill then hit Bliss with Jaded, but Jayne knocked Cargill away and stole the pin on Bliss.
• Giulia was interviewed about next week's Money in the Bank qualifier against Charlotte Flair and Lash Legend. Nia Jax and Legend interrupted, with Legend promising she would be the one advancing. Giulia responded by getting in Legend's face and threatening to kick her teeth out.
• Trick Williams and Lil Yachty discussed their next move against Baron Corbin before running into Sami Zayn backstage. Trick called Zayn "Gingerbread," prompting Zayn to demand respect as a two-time champion. Trick said he hopes Zayn stays champion long enough for Trick to win Money in the Bank and cash in on him to take another title away from him.
• Damian Priest explained his attack on R-Truth in a prerecorded promo. Priest said it should not have taken him so long to realize that he needed to change and blamed Truth for refusing to get the message. Priest embraced being the "bad man" Truth had accused him of becoming.
• Undisputed WWE Championship Match: Sami Zayn (c) defeated Kevin Owens by pinfall to retain the title. Johnny Gargano distracted the referee late in the match, allowing Candice LeRae to hit Owens with a tornado DDT before Zayn connected with a Helluva Kick, but Owens kicked out. Owens later hit a Stunner and appeared to have Zayn beaten until Gargano put Zayn's foot on the rope. Owens dealt with Gargano and sent Zayn through the announce table, but CM Punk suddenly appeared while LeRae distracted the referee and struck Owens with the championship belt. Zayn eventually hit another Helluva Kick to retain. Punk attacked Zayn after the match with a GTS and then gave Owens one as well before leaving both men down to close the show.
