FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS: SEPTEMBER 11, 2026
- Randy Orton opened SmackDown by reflecting on his victory over Cody Rhodes at Sunday Night's Main Event. Orton said Rhodes is a good man, father, husband and friend, but he is not a killer because he was unwilling to sacrifice part of his soul to finish Orton. The Viper said he has no such hesitation and warned whoever leaves tonight as WWE champion that he is coming for his 15th world title with an RKO waiting for them.
- Nick Aldis reminded Chelsea Green backstage that she must keep her protective mask on during her title defense or risk being stripped of the championship if she reinjures herself. Green assured him the bedazzled mask was staying put. Tiffany Stratton then arrived and volunteered to remain at ringside to prevent Lash Legend from interfering on Nia Jax's behalf.
- WWE aired a video package commemorating the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
- Singles Match for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship: Rey Fenix (c) defeated Ricky Saints by pinfall to retain the title. Fenix finished Saints with the Mexican Muscle Buster. Fenix offered his opponent a handshake afterward, but Saints refused and walked away.
- Sami Zayn told Cathy Kelley that his WWE Championship match against CM Punk is not simply about him, but about justice. Zayn said he previously would have been happy to see Kevin Owens, Johnny Gargano, Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Gunther or Finn Balor dethrone Punk, but now realizes he has to be the one to take back what Punk stole from him. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae interrupted, with Gargano reminding Zayn that he expects the first championship opportunity if Sami wins tonight. Zayn agreed.
- Nikki Bella defeated Paige by pinfall.
- United States Champion Trick Williams came out to gloat about winning the United States title back. When he introduced Lil Yachty to come out, Baron Corbin instead dragged him out and then took out Williams as well.
- Finn Balor told Nick Aldis that he's ready to get another title shot (what's he done to earn it?). Aldis said he should be focused on Money in the Bank. Danhausen was in the background wiping down the monitor with the SmackDown logo on it. Gunther interrupted to say what he's been saying for weeks about how he should beat some sense into Balor about how he's peaked and all. Balor eventually struck Gunther and knocked him down.
- Singles Match for the Interim WWE Women's Championship: Chelsea Green (c) retained over Nia Jax by pinfall.
- Backstage Interview: CM Punk was asked why he's giving Sami Zayn a title shot. Punk said sometimes, you have to reward bad behavior by teaching them a lesson.
- Tag Team Match for the AAA World Tag Team Championship: War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) (c) defeated Damian Priest and R-Truth by pinfall to retain the titles. War Raiders hit Ragnarok on R-Truth for the victory. After the match, Priest helped Truth back to his feet and hugged him before putting Truth's sombrero on his head and suddenly dropping him with a lariat. Truth begged Priest to stop, but Priest followed with South of Heaven.
- Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss crossed paths backstage with Fatal Influence, who talked about going after the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. Tatum Paxley appeared and reminded them that she and Charlotte had already beaten them. After Fatal Influence left, Paxley apologized to Charlotte for what happened at Sunday Night's Main Event. Charlotte said she trusts Alexa but still isn't sure what happened with Tatum was truly an accident and walked away. Bliss told Paxley to give Charlotte some time.
- Rey Fenix was interviewed backstage about Penta challenging Roman Reigns on Raw and his own upcoming Triplemania match when Ricky Saints interrupted. Saints apologized for refusing Fenix's handshake earlier, admitted Fenix was the better man and shook his hand. After walking away, Saints doubled back and attacked Fenix from behind.
- Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Sami Zayn defeated CM Punk (c) by pinfall to win the title. Punk appeared to hurt his knee early in the match while Zayn continued dealing with his injured wrist. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae eventually came to ringside, with LeRae distracting the referee while Punk trapped Zayn in the Anaconda Vise. Zayn tapped out, but the referee never saw it. Gargano later brought the championship belt into the ring, but Punk avoided him and hit Gargano with the Go to Sleep. Kevin Owens then appeared and tried to hit Zayn with the title, but Sami ducked and Owens accidentally struck Punk instead. Zayn hit Owens with a low blow, sent him out of the ring and hit Punk with the Helluva Kick to become a two-time Undisputed WWE Champion. After the match, Zayn celebrated with the championship on the entrance aisle to close the show.
