FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS: AUGUST 21, 2026
- Sami Zayn was complaining backstage to Nick Aldis about all the recent injustices. Randy Orton came up behind him to overhear him talking trash about him. Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes was in the ring calling out Orton. Aldis went ahead and left, followed by Orton, which upset Zayn. Aldis went to the ring to try to get some decorum, while Orton and Rhodes wanted to fight. Aldis said he's sick of their crap, so if either of them fights before Sunday Night's Main Event, they'll never get another shot at the WWE title. Orton said that Rhodes doesn't have it in him to be as brutal as Orton is, because Randy knows how to be the worst version of himself, whereas Cody is a "good guy" and not The American Nightmare, but "The American Daydream." Rhodes retorted that he will ultimately still be the one to take out Orton "and that is not a prediction, that's a spoiler"—taking Paul Heyman's line for a vague tease.
- WWE Tag Team Championship Match: MFTs (c) (Talla Tonga & Tama Tonga) defeated Wepa Up (Damian Priest & R-Truth) by pinfall to retain.
- Randy Orton warned CM Punk backstage that he's coming for belt #15. Punk said he's looking forward to it.
- Backstage, Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, and Paige were chatting when Fatal Influence interrupted to talk trash, leading to Paige challenging Jacy Jayne for the women's US title and was denied.
- Blake Monroe jumped Giulia from behind during her entrance and they awkwardly didn't have a match as she beat her up, but not so much that Giulia was taken out entirely. This sort of just ended.
- Hey, if you liked "3 women act weird around each other over one of them being a weirdo and then 3 bitchy women approach them to talk trash and that leads to a challenge to a match" from the previous segment, you'd love Tatum Paxley creeping Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss out until Jade Cargill and Michin and B-Fab approach to, well, talk some trash and then challenge Paxley to a match next week against Michin. What is going on with this episode?
- Trick Williams called out Baron Corbin for a title match right then and there. Corbin said the belt is getting a "haircut" right now and said no, because Trick lost their previous two matches, so Lil Yachty used the kendo stick and Corbin got pissed and said he'll give Trick a shot at Sunday Night's Main Event only if Yachty survives 5 minutes with him in Atlanta.
- Backstage: Finn Balor and Kevin Owens were talking when Gunther interrupted to say if Owens beats Punk, he doesn't have to worry about Balor, who he didn't even regard as being there because he's a shadow of himself, as Owens needs to worry about The Ring General. Balor said if Owens wins, he'll be waiting.
- Lash Legend defeated Tiffany Stratton by pinfall. Legend and Nia Jax continued to beat Stratton after the match until Chelsea Green came out with a kendo stick to run them off.
- Another Shinsuke Nakamura vignette aired about him warning the MFTs, this time finally unveiling Hiromu Takahashi, who is going by KYOKI, ending the promo saying Bakusai.
- Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) retained over Kevin Owens by pinfall due in part to Sami Zayn hitting Owens with the title belt after Owens turned down the idea of using it. Sami used the belt on Punk as well after the match.
