WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS: January 9, 2026

  • Promo: Trick Williams interrupted Randy Orton, ending with Orton standing tall over both Williams and The Miz, who had tried to get some revenge on The Viper for last week.
  • Trick Williams defeated Rey Fenix by pinfall
  • Giulia and Kiana James were quickly interviewed backstage by Byron Saxton so they could say Giulia will beat Alexa Bliss.
  • Commercials take forever, and then, we have a video package about last week's ambulance match, and then, another backstage interview so Damian Priest can say he wants to go for the title. Drew McIntyre interrupts. Priest reminds him of the last time they danced. Now we're interviewing McIntyre (good lord, the pacing of these shows are just terrible) so he could say he's going to beat Cody Rhodes tonight and show that he has the gold watch. The show's been on for 40 minutes at this point.
  • Oh my god, ANOTHER backstage segment with Alexa Bliss talking to Charlotte Flair on the phone, who is supposedly sick. She's interrupted by Nia Jax and Lash Legend. They point out how Flair isn't around when Bliss has a solo opportunity. Another commercial break coming.
  • And then, more promotional stuff for the podcasts. Jesus Christ, the pacing of this show is horrendous.
  • WWE Women's United States Championship Match: Giulia (c) defeated Alexa Bliss by pinfall due to some interference from Kiana James, Lash Legend, and Nia Jax
  • Jordynne Grace is officially on SmackDown. Chelsea Green immediately interrupts to demand a rematch for the US title. Wasting time.
  • Kit Wilson comes over to Aldis to basically translate to "WWE has 3 hours and this guy is over as hell right now, but they still didn't bother to plan out anything for him tonight." Wow.
  • Matt Cardona is interviewed by Byron Saxton, who says it's been over 5 years since Zack Ryder's been on the roster, and Cardona says it's been almost 6 years (superfluous), and immediately just talks to Cody Rhodes about how he's back to also get the title, because that's been a writer's edict lately to just have everyone on the roster do that. That's storytelling, apparently. Yikes.
  • And now, we're wasting time with more video packages.
  • Eight-Man Tag Team Match: MFTs defeated The Wyatt Sicks (Bo Dallas, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis) by pinfall.
  • Backstage: The Miz wants a US title shot. Carmelo Hayes is having an open challenge, but The Miz doesn't want it now, because of the Orton stuff from earlier. Ilja Dragunov is standing right there conveniently (as always) and Hayes wants Dragunov to answer the challenge. But Dragunov ALSO says no. (WTF? Nobody wants a title shot?) Dragunov wants to talk to Aldis about something else.
  • Jordynne Grace defeated Alba Fyre by pinfall. Jade Cargill came out to stare down Grace for a moment to say "You think you did something special? Well, now, you're on my show, and I'm that bitch." She then walked away. I'm assuming this is going to transition to a backstage segment or commercial.
  • Aaaaand here's a backstage interview with Sami Zayn and Byron Saxton, just so Zayn could say he's betting on Cody tonight and remind everyone that he's also coming for the title.
  • Carmelo Hayes comes out for his entrance, which obviously means they're going to dawdle and not start the next match.
  • Yup, a bunch more filler bullshit. Sorry, I'm not reporting on what it is, because it doesn't matter and I don't want to give WWE any more publicity for whatever it is they're promoting.
  • Nathan Frazer is attacked backstage by Johnny Gargano, who was wearing Axiom's mask.
  • Open Challenge for the WWE Men's United States Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) retained over Shinsuke Nakamura by pinfall.
  • 3 Stages of Hell Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs Drew McIntyre — Drew won the first fall after a low blow that the ref didn't see. Cody won the second fall after a Cross Rhodes in their Falls Count Anywhere scenario. McIntyre then won the title  because Jacob Fatu was attacking them both, but had been focused on Rhodes at the moment, allowing Drew an opportunity to escape the cage — they're going to act like this title change and the shock of it makes up for a terrible episode prior to it.
