Posted by Cherry Turner Saturday, April 13, 2024

Welcome to another edition of POINTS OF IMPACT—a breakdown of the top moments of this week's edition of TNA’s Impact Wrestling.

This segment will fill you in on the most important parts of the show worth checking out or keeping up to date with, in case you missed this episode of Impact Wrestling.

Without further ado, let's inspect the biggest takeaways of the week!

TNA IMPACT WRESTLING: datecaps RESULTS

#5 - Finally, Something New

Crazzy Steve’s reign with the Digital Media title has been a mixed bag. Some could argue the disappointing endings to his matches are part of heel booking, but some could argue his defences have just been pure underwhelming. This one, at least, tries something new.

Steve doesn’t walk away with his head held high for once. Having his standard match for the most part, he eventually baits Laredo Kid into getting himself disqualified. Having had his mask ripped at by Steve, Kid wouldn’t let up on strikes in the corner, eventually shoving the ref away. After the bell, Steve would try to attack with the title belt, but Kid would block, trying to attack in return, but Steve would escape. Nonetheless, Kid ended the segment standing tall, and in position of the title belt.

#4 - Tommy Dreamer’s Back…Yay?

Impact opened not with a title sequence, but with an in-progress brawl between Josh Alexander and Hammerstone. Weeks worth of tension boiling over, the two would brawl as security tried and eventually succeeded in attempts to separate them. Alexander would still be trying to get to Hammerstone, only to be talked down by a returning Tommy Dreamer.

Dreamer got in the ring, trying to appeal to Hammerstone, talking about legacy. Hammer would pretend to take this in, only to attack Dreamer. Alexander would chase him off, and lay down the challenge for a Last Man Standing match at Rebellion.

#3 - All You Need

Moose Vs Trent Seven wasn’t a long match, but it was certainly a fun one. Set up last week during a backstage confrontation between the System and Speedball Mountain, this non-title bout told a great story in the time it had.

Moose, athletic, dominant champion, underestimates the veteran he shares the ring with, and pays the price. He powers through Seven’s strikes early on, but ends up eating it because of how crafty Seven is. After that, it’s a familiar story of Seven enduring and finding openings, right up until the sniper shot that is Moose’s spear putting and end to things via pinfall.

#2 - First Class Pairing

They got me to enjoy an AJ Francis match. They actually did it.

It should be noted that much of what made this tag match work was not Francis himself. How the match was structured, and how ABC sold his offense, made his parts of the match work. But they definitely worked. As far as first major outings go for teams, this was among one of the best. Dominating ABC early on, clawing back victory from the jaws of defeat, in just one match, and with one win, First Class, the team of Francis and the newly heel Rich Swann, already feel like credible threats.

#1 - Wonderful Ridiculous Wrestling

This week’s main event saw an undead French-Canadian and a former cult member hit each other with various weapons. And it was very entertaining. Wrestling is often most fun when it’s silly, and PCO Vs Kon was just that. The latest in the Monster’s Ball match’s history, this lived up to the name.

Tacks, ladders, more tacks on top of that, this was not a match rich with story. This was a match rich with spectacle, as PCO did what he does best-take a licking and keep on kicking, taking bumps no man his age should even consider, and keep going. All the while, making Kon look like a real threat even in defeat.

PCO would pick up the win by, with Kon already on the mat with tacks in his back, sprinkling more racks on his torso, and jamming them in with a PCOsault.
