Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling #294

Posted by Ross K. Foad Sunday, December 22, 2019
Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
JABBERING JOE

Quick! Get Samoa Joe off commentary before higher-ups realize just how good he is.

Currently on Raw’s three man booth, Joe has proven that his gift of the gab extends far beyond cutting promos on the single-stick. He is neither a true face or heel, but occupies the refreshingly rare middle ground of a view colored by common sense. Of course, he will be receiving guidance and direction from the back, but nothing he says sounds overly produced.

Did you catch his slip up referring to the O.C as the tag champions? He simply stopped, corrected himself, and then used it to put over Gallows and Anderson by saying that they should have the titles. The man is a natural.

My only concern is that we might be looking at the new Tazz. An excellent performer that was pulled, a little too soon, into the commentary role.

Should he want it, I would love to have Joe transition to this spot when he does hang up his boots, but Joe easily still has a few years left for a ring career, and I do not think his full potential has been utilized in WWE just yet.

Though, I realize that I am very much getting ahead of myself, and he has barely done three weeks in the position, but I cannot be the only one to notice his potential here, surely?

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
BAR NONE

The timing of this seems so off. Why was Cesaro placed in a team with Shinsuke and Sami Zayn the same week that Sheamus was announced for a return from injury? I miss The Bar terribly, and, while some would certainly argue it was time for Cesaro to move on, I am not sure that a lesser quasi-tag team is progression. I do not use the term lesser as an insult to Nakamura, as the actual skill level of the two combined is off the charts, but you would be hard pressed to argue that it elevates Cesaro more than when he was with Sheamus, or that they are a match made in heaven personality wise.

In addition, is this an actual team in the traditional sense? Or is the IC title still Nakamura's focus? I am not sure even WWE known.

Time to reopen The Bar?
