Review of UFC 212 pay-per-view Aldo vs Holloway

MAIN CARD

FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Jose Aldo (c) vs Max Holloway (ic)

I didn't know what to expect for this and it was close for the first two round, possibly even going slightly in Aldo's favour. But wow! Holloway dominated in the third round and there's no surprise he got the TKO based on that third round.

RESULT: Max Holloway, 3rd round TKO.

STRAWWEIGHT: Claudia Gadelha (#1) vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz (#2)

A first round submission for Gadelha surprises me, I thought there was a good chance this would go to the judges.

RESULT: Claudia Gadelha, 1st round submission.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Vitor Belfort (#11) vs Nate Marquardt

Hmmm, I struggle to see how Belfort won this, I think there's a case to give Marquardt a 30-27 for this fight. Strange.

RESULT: Vitor Belfort, unanimous decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Paulo Borrachinha vs Oluwale Bamgbose

Borrachinha struggled a little in the first round but got an early TKO in the second round for a good win.

RESULT: Paulo Borrachinha, 2nd round TKO.

WELTERWEIGHT: Erick Silva vs Yancy Medeiros

Silva started aggressively to take the first round. But Medeiros get the TKO early in the second. Silva wasn't happy with the stoppage and his defence was there, but Medeiros gets the win.

RESULT: Yancy Medeiros, 2nd round TKO.

PRELIMINARY CARD

BANTAMWEIGHT: Raphael Assuncao (#3) vs Marlon Moraes

So... the stats for this fight say that total and significant strikes were even in the second and third round and Moraes got one extra strike int he first round. This is so tough to call and I think I might have just given it to Moraes.

RESULT: Raphael Assuncao, split decision.

MIDDLEWEIGHT: Antonio Carlos Junior vs Eric Spicely

Quite a close fight that may have been going slightly in Spicely's favour, but Carlos Junior got the submission towards the end of the second round.

RESULT: Antonio Carlos Junior, 2nd round submission.

BANTAMWEIGHT: Johnny Eduardo (#10) vs Matthew Lopez

Lopez dominated the fight and got the TKO within 3 minutes.

RESULT: Matthew Lopez, 1st round TKO.

BANTAMWEIGHT: Iuri Alcantara vs Brian Kelleher

Wow! Alcantara looked very good, but Kelleher locked in the guillotine for the win. Just goes to show how quickly a fight can change.

RESULT: Brian Kelleher, 1st round submission.

EARLY PRELIMINARY CARD

STRAWWEIGHT: Viviane Pereira vs Jamie Moyle

Two of the judges called this 30-27 for Pereira, which I find very odd. I though Moyle had the first round quite comfortably. Pereira definitely deserved the other two round and the win, though.

RESULT: Viviane Pereira, unanimous decision.

WELTERWEIGHT: Luan Chagas vs Jim Wallhead

Chagas really dominated this fight and could have had a 10-8 round, but a solid rear-naked choke finished off Wallhead.

RESULT: Luan Chagas, 2nd round submission.

FLYWEIGHT: Marco Beltran vs Deiveson Figueiredo

Beltran looked decent in this fight,  but a TKO right at the end of the second round got the win for Figueiredo.

RESULT: Deiveson Figueiredo, 2nd round TKO.
