Cheap Pop & Cheap Heat of the Week in Wrestling: 4/9/2017

Posted by Ross K. Foad Sunday, April 9, 2017
Welcome to another edition of Cheap Pop and Cheap Heat from Smark Out Moment! Each week, we break down the world of professional wrestling and examine two of the polar opposite ends of the spectrum: one thing that was by far the worst thing (Cheap Heat) and the best thing (Cheap Pop) to happen over the past 7 days in sports entertainment. So, what went down this week that we loved and hated about the business?

CHEAP POP OF THE WEEK:
THE RAW TAG TEAM REVIVAL

Wow! What a week! WrestleMania and the shows that follow always makes it a tricky one when it comes to singling out the greatest moment, but I think that I will have to go with The Hardy Boyz return and the subsequent revival of the Raw tag team scene.

Yes, we knew that it was bound to happen at some point, but the contract signings with Ring of Honor and legal battles with an owl meant the Matt and Jeff return was still up in the air. Thankfully, WWE and The Hardyz did an excellent job at keeping this one under wraps so as to save the surprise.

The Hardyz came out to a mega pop, and this was followed by a fast, fun, and furious ladder match with an ever bigger pop when The Hardyz were able to claim their seventh WWE tag titles.

But the fun did not stop there, for Monday Night Raw also saw the debut of The Revival, a tag title defense, and a number one contenders match for the the belts too.

WWE showing some priority for the double red straps? Delightful!

CHEAP HEAT OF THE WEEK:
STANDING BY THE SNAKE

Wrestling history has taught us that even the most bitter of enemies can become allies, but this does not excuse the fact that Luke Harper and Randy Orton letting bygones be bygones made so little sense this week.

Luke Harper distrusted Randy Orton when he joined The Wyatt Family last autumn, and it was this paranoid, but not misplaced, distrust that ultimately cost him his role as the lead disciple in the cult's pecking order. Plus, just a few weeks before WrestleMania, the two were embroiled in a mini-feud!

Surely, Luke has far more reason to be angry at Randy than he does Bray Wyatt. If it were not for Orton, then Luke Harper would still be in The Wyatt Family. So, why come to his aid to protect him from Bray and Erick Rowan?

Maybe I am reading too much into this, and it is a one-off thing, but if Harper remains a thorn to Bray Wyatt, he is bound to come across Randy again. Will this alliance continue then?

I can happily accept burning mystic compounds and magical maggot summonings as part and parcel of this feud, but dammit, let us have who's on whose side at least make some sense!
