Wrestling Smack Talk: 7/28/2012

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, July 28, 2012

What's been going on this week in the world of professional wrestling? It's time to break it down in the latest edition of SMACK TALK, my wrestling podcast and the quick notes below. Make sure to subscribe, comment on the videos and this post, and let us know your thoughts.

Watch each part below:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

  • Don't forget to vote on the latest group of matches for the hottest divas & knockouts tournament
  • Velvet Sky has left TNA. The pigeons have been let loose for good it seems.
  • ECW's trademark is up in the air as that company trying to obtain it from WWE's grasps ended up being rejected.
  • Great Khali had a tumor removed from his pituitary gland. All the best in your recovery, Khali.
  • The story going around is that Alex Riley lost his push because he responded poorly to a John Cena rib. If that's so, that's ridiculous, unless he responded in such a horrendous fashion like threatened to fight Cena or something.
  • Did Stone Cold Steve Austin not show up on the 1000th Raw episode because he was having surgery or did he not show up out of anger from WWE not promoting his show? Hm...
  • Rowdy Roddy Piper is furious that there's a report going around that he was offending Kaitlyn backstage at Raw, hinting towards a sexual harassment vein. All things seem to point to it being a fake report.
  • Seth Rollins is the first NXT champion according to the Full Sail University tapings.

Hottest Divas & Knockouts Tournament: Round 3, Matches 153-160

Posted by Anthony Mango - Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Who are the sexiest wrestling women in WWE and TNA history? We are now on ROUND 3 of the tournament with matches #153-160. First thing's first, here are your results from panel 1 for Round 3:

Mickie James beat Ashley Massaro | Lacey Von Erich beat Torrie Wilson
Eve Torres beat Cameron Haven | Stephanie McMahon beat Trinity
Maryse beat Kimberly Page | JT Tinney beat Madison Rayne
Candice Michelle beat Melina | Trish Stratus beat Beth Phoenix

So here's the next set of matches for you to vote on!

Francine Fournier vs Miss Jackie Gayda Haas

Francine vs Jackie Gayda

[THOUGHTS: Francine's been performing pretty strongly in the tournament so far, but Jackie Gayda's outlasted Krissy Vaine, who was able to upset Velvet Sky. Does that mean Jackie's got a really loyal fan base or that people were just really opposed to Velvet Sky? It's up to Francine to be the decision maker when it comes to that.]

Carmella DeCesare vs Beulah McGillicutty (Trisa Hayes)

Carmella DeCesare vs Beulah McGillicutty

[THOUGHTS: This tournament's about attractiveness, not contributions to the wrestling world. Carmella's a model, she beats out Beulah in my book.]

Maxine (Karlee Perez) vs Marlena (Terri Runnels)

Maxine vs Marlena

[THOUGHTS: Never was the biggest fan of Maxine, that's why I have a different matchup for Marlena down below. Obviously with that in mind, Marlena gets my vote.]

Stacy Keibler vs Rosa Mendes (Milena Roucka)

Stacy Keibler vs Rosa Mendes

[THOUGHTS: Rosa seems to have people that never fully commit to liking or disliking her. I hear a lot of people say on an off day she looks bad and on a good day she's smoking hot. Stacy Keibler on the other hand, most people just constantly praise. I'd be surprised if Rosa upsets her here.]

Miss Tessmacher Brooke Adams vs Kaitlyn (Celeste Bonin)

Brooke Adams vs Kaitlyn

[THOUGHTS: Two people that have their detractors and their supporters. Can the Hooters girl beat out the fitness model? My vote goes to Brooke. I'm not as big of a fan of muscles.]

Bella Twin Nikki Bella (Nicole Garcia) vs Christy Hemme

Nikki Bella vs Christy Hemme

[THOUGHTS: The Bella twins have strong supporters (their "Bella Army"...allow me to roll my eyes for a minute) but Christy Hemme's got a loyal section of votes as well. I would assume Nikki Bella gets the win here, but I doubt it would be a landslide.]

Gail Kim vs Crystal Louthan

Gail Kim vs Crystal Louthan

[THOUGHTS: This one is tough. They're both on the TNA side of things but Gail is more popular. Crystal's had some good votes going for her and a lot of people tend to be voting based on her type of body style. Very tough call.]

Layla El vs Bella Twin Brie Bella (Brianna Garcia)

Layla El vs Brie Bella

[THOUGHTS: As previously mentioned, the Bella twins have popularity on their side and the twin factor. However, Layla is currently the Divas champ and I never really hear anyone speak badly about her in terms of attractiveness. This could be a close one, but I would guess Layla comes out on top.]

DIFFERENCES IN MY BRACKET FOR PANEL 2
Since I have a second bracket of solely my votes for you guys to see, we differ sometimes. Everything above is the same except the following matches below:

Francine Fournier vs Velvet Sky

My vote went to Velvet Sky. I really was surprised when she lost the first round and I totally don't see why. She's a possible contender to go all the way for my brackets.

Lena Yada vs Marlena (Terri Runnels)

My vote went to Marlena. Used to be a big fan of her back in the day when she was Marlena (hence why I refer to her as that more so than Terri Runnels). As creepy as Goldust was, Marlena was the total opposite.

Simona Fusco vs Christy Hemme

My vote went to Simona Fusco. Look at that picture. Nuff said.

Gail Kim vs Brooke Gilbertsen

My vote hasn't been decided yet, but I'm leaning towards Brooke Gilbertsen. Chances are, I'll end up going with her. I wanted her to win the Divas Search instead of Eve - but thankfully Eve did as she's proven herself a good worker.

WWE SummerSlam 2012 PPV Predictions, Spoilers of Results

Posted by Anthony Mango - Monday, July 23, 2012

Watch WWE SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Predictions & Spoilers of Results and Review
WWE SummerSlam 2012 Predictions
WWE SummerSlam 2012 PPV - Triple H versus Brock Lesnar. CM Punk defends the WWE Championship against John Cena and Big Show. Sheamus defends the World Heavyweight Championship. Chris Jericho versus Dolph Ziggler. Will the Money in the Bank be cashed in? What matches will be added to the card? How will the new General Manager AJ be a factor? Here are my predictions for the pay-per-view. Check here for SummerSlam 2012 results and review here.

WWE SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Brock Lesnar vs Triple H HHH Video

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar
Not thrilled to see this match. I don't care about the feud, I don't think the match quality will be good, and I'm expecting the whole point of it to simply end up just being a stroke of HHH's ego. If Lesnar comes out of this looking good and wins the match, then that might help, but if he just jobs to Triple H then I don't see how they can build him back up to anything credible for WrestleMania considering the limited amount of appearances he has left.

PREDICTION: Triple H wins.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View WWE Championship Match John Cena CM Punk Big Show Triple Threat

WWE Championship [Triple Threat Match]: CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena vs. Big Show
So this was inevitable. CM Punk will act as a tweener, John Cena will be the babyface, and Big Show will be the heel. John Cena looks like he's about to win after giving an Attitude Adjustment to Big Show, but CM Punk kicks him in the head and then pins Big Show to retain the title. Cena then has a rightful claim to a match of his own against Punk at Night of Champions. Not a fan of this.

PREDICTION: CM Punk retains via pinfall on Big Show with Cena looking like gold, again.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View World Heavyweight Championship Match Alberto Del Rio vs Sheamus World Heavyweight Title

World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
I would be shocked if Alberto Del Rio stays solo in this match. I'm expecting Rey Mysterio to be involved in some capacity. Either way, Sheamus retains. I can't see them giving it to Del Rio. He's just got nothing going for him at the moment. He doesn't have anything rolling for his character. If they gave him the title it would feel like they did it out of the blue. Sheamus will probably just be dropping it to Dolph Ziggler at some point - maybe even at SummerSlam if they want to do something big (but more than likely not). I'm not having high hopes for this match at all in terms of quality and I can see it being the opener of the pay-per-view.

PREDICTION: Sheamus retains.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Match Daniel Bryan vs Kane

Daniel Bryan vs Kane
This was obviously thrown together with nothing in mind ahead of time for either of them. I have no interest in this match as it won't have any lasting repercussions or anything of the sort. This is just a means to get the two of them on the card. Hopefully they don't waste a lot of time on it and they add some more matches to make up for it.

PREDICTION: Daniel Bryan wins.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Chris Jericho vs Dolph Ziggler Match

Chris Jericho vs Dolph Ziggler
This is a feud I've been wanting for a really long time. I have high hopes that this will steal the show and be the best match of the night. Hell, it has potential to be a match of the year candidate, the way these two work. If Jericho is truly going to leave after this pay-per-view, that will be a shame as it will cut the feud short, but maybe they'll use that as a means to give us everything in this match. I hope it's used to put Ziggler over.

PREDICTION: Dolph Ziggler wins.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Titus O'Neil Darren Young Kofi Kingston R-Truth Tag Team Championship Match

Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Prime Time Players
Titus O'Neil and Darren Young are not good enough on their own. They needed AW and since he's been fired, it hinders them so much. I really don't like the tag team of Kofi and Truth. It has never made sense to me. They've got nothing in common other than being black men. By that rationality, why don't we just tag team Kane and Cody Rhodes since they're both white? They've never had a tag team name like Air Boom (stupid name, but at least they matched ring gear and shit) and it makes no sense for Kofi to be doing the Little Jimmy gimmick with Truth. I'd like to say I wish the Prime Time Players would take the titles from them, but without AW, they'd suck just as bad if not worse. We need some new tag teams instead.

PREDICTION: The Prime Time Players win the titles.

Watch SummerSlam 2012 Pay-Per-View Intercontinental Championship Match Miz Rey Mysterio

Intercontinental Championship: The Miz (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
Why isn't Christian getting this title match instead? That's stupid. Miz needs to retain the title. What's Rey Mysterio going to do with it, get injured?

PREDICTION: The Miz wins.

United States Championship [YouTube Pre-Show]: Santino Marella (c) vs. Antonio Cesaro
I'm not a big fan of Cesaro getting this title shot. He hasn't had a feud with anybody, he isn't exactly the most over guy with the crowd to bypass that, and I don't understand why some other people are floundering while he gets a shot instead (like Jack Swagger). I'm expecting Santino to win here, though. It would be interesting if he dropped the title on the pre-show, but I don't think that will happen. I still do wish Santino would drop it, though, particularly to Damien Sandow.

PREDICTION: Santino wins.

PREDICTED MATCHES
The rest of the card is up for grabs but the possibilities include a Brodus Clay match against Damien Sandow and maybe a Divas match of some sort that nobody will care about - but that's about it, despite how some big enough names like Cody Rhodes and Christian aren't on the card.

Hottest Divas & Knockouts Tournament: Round 3, Matches 145-152

Posted by Anthony Mango - Wednesday, July 18, 2012

Who are the sexiest wrestling women in WWE and TNA history? We are now on ROUND 3 of the tournament with matches #145-152

First thing's first, here are your results from Group C and D of panel 3 for Round 2:

Maria Kanellis beat Rochelle Loewen | Gorgeous George beat Jamie Keyes
AJ Lee beat Chelsea | Savannah beat Sensational Sherri
Michelle McCool beat Miss Elizabeth | Jasmin St. Claire beat Summer DeLin
Ashley Valence beat Lyndy Frieson | Chyna beat Kimona Wanalaya

So here's the next set of matches for you to vote on!

Ashley Massaro vs Mickie James

Ashley Massaro vs Mickie James

[THOUGHTS: This one is more so a matter of whether or not you're into rocker chicks, it seems. If you like that edge, you'll probably vote for Massaro. If you like the more standard type of woman, you'll probably vote for Mickie. Both of them are popular and have lots of merit.]

Torrie Wilson vs Lacey Von Erich

Torrie Wilson vs Lacey Von Erich

[THOUGHTS: I have no idea what's going to happen with this one. There's no drastic differences in looks. Torrie has an edge in fan-popularity, but will that translate to an edge in hotness quality?]

Eve Torres vs Cameron Haven

Eve Torres vs Cameron Haven

[THOUGHTS: A question of Eve's fan recognition against Cameron's Google Image Search pictures. Go ahead, check them out. Then come back here and vote. Just don't forget about what Eve's shown us so far in comparison.]

Trinity (Stephanie Finochio) vs Stephanie McMahon

Trinity vs Stephanie McMahon

[THOUGHTS: Stephanie versus Stephanie. Do you go with the girl that has caution tape on her chest or the one who has Triple H on her chest?]

Nitro Girl Kimberly Page vs Maryse Ouellet

Kimberly Page vs Maryse Ouellet

[THOUGHTS: This one is incredibly hard for me to choose. In fact, this could have been a potential final match for me. Kimberly is GORGEOUS, but Maryse is by many means the definition of sexy. Way too tough to vote without a lot of deliberation.]

Madison Rayne vs Jennifer J.T. Tinney

Madison Rayne vs J.T. Tinney

[THOUGHTS: I voted against JT Tinney last round, but that's not a detractor against her, it's just that she was up against Alicia Fox whom I've always had a spot for. This round, I have to vote against JT Tinney again for the same reason. It's a shame as Jennifer Tinney is quite a looker but Fox and Madison I just couldn't vote against yet.]

Candice Michelle vs Melina Perez

Candice Michelle vs Melina Perez

[THOUGHTS: Two people that feuded with each other during their prime in WWE as Divas. Melina was the better wrestler, Candice was more of the sex appeal. Does that give Candice the win here or does Melina win again?]

Trish Stratus vs Beth Phoenix

Trish Stratus vs Beth Phoenix

[THOUGHTS: Beth has had quite a showing so far, but I think this is her time. Trish is one person that a lot of people are considering taking to the end of this tournament. If she loses, it'll be an upset for sure.]

TNA KnockoutsSexy Ass Hot

DIFFERENCES IN MY BRACKET FOR PANEL 1
Since I have a second bracket of solely my votes for you guys to see, we differ sometimes. Everything above is the same except the following matches below:

Trinity (Stephanie Finochio) vs Tiffany (Taryn Terrell)

My vote went to Tiffany. Shame she got knocked out so early - in both this tournament and her WWE career.

Madison Rayne vs. Alicia Fox (Victoria Crawford)

My vote went to Madison Rayne. Alicia Fox is enough to knock out JT Tinney for me, but not enough to knock out Madison Rayne, who could be one of my potential winners.

Trish Stratus vs. Joy Giovanni

My vote went to Trish Stratus. Not a vote against Joy Giovanni but more so a vote for Trish Stratus.

  • Kharma might have been released by WWE as she's been put in the Alumni section of the website. Here's hoping she ISN'T released and this is a mixup or a work.
  • Finlay is back in the company working as a producer. He was previously removed from WWE employment after his idea that the Miz should interrupt the National Anthem, which didn't go over so well.
  • Tammy Sytch, aka Sunny, had her thong removed by her boyfriend Damien Darling during an independent wrestling show. People are going nuts about it, because kids were in the audience. She claims she had another pair of underwear on. Yeesh...it's a wrestling show, this stuff happens.
  • Sin Cara, formerly Mistico, is going to lose his Mistico gimmick as someone else is taking up the reigns in the CMLL promotion.

WWE Money in the Bank 2012 PPV Results & Review Coverage Live

Posted by Anthony Mango - Sunday, July 8, 2012

Watch WWE Money in the Bank 2012 PPV Stream
Watch WWE Money in the Bank 2012 ppv live online coverage of results and review here. CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship, Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Championship Money in the Bank ladder match, World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank ladder match, YouTube preshow tag team championship shot for Hunico and Camacho against Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, I'm assuming a Ryback squash match, and some other matches to be added. You can check out my predictions here.

YouTube Preshow Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (c) vs. Hunico & Camacho
Didn't get a chance to really see this, sorry guys.

WINNERS: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth via pinfall
Didn't see more than a minute of it

World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Santino Marella vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow vs. Tyson Kidd vs. Sin Cara vs. Tensai vs. Christian
I'll basically only put highlights on this, as you know how ladder matches go. Tensai slingshots Tyson into a ladder. Sin Cara just botched trying to do some kind of move to Dolph and nearly broke Dolph's neck. Future endeavors, anyone? Jesus Christ. You can't do that to Tensai but you'll do it to Dolph? Christian misses a frog splash on Tyson Kidd and hits a ladder instead. There's a fat Sin Cara guy in the crowd. One of the ladders is broken on the inside. Tensai just botched a power bomb of sorts on Santino. Good lord. Tyson flips Tensai over the ropes. Christian spears Sandow onto a ladder. Now they're doing a thing with Santino being afraid of heights and unable to climb the ladder. Cody knocks him off with a dropkick.Vickie climbs the ladder to try to stop Cody. Ziggler knocks Cody down.Tyson just flipped off the ropes and hit some kind of a weird power bomb on Ziggler to get him off the ladder - but it wasn't as botched as the previous stuff. Tensai sets up a ladder between the ring apron and the table and power bombs Sin Cara onto it. He then throws Ziggler over the table into the chair that I think Lawler was using. Now we've got Cody and Tyson and Christian in the ring with Santino. Christian spears Cody off the ladder. Dolph knocks Christian off the ladder. Dolph gets it!

WINNER: Dolph Ziggler!
Good match, very glad Dolph won.

Just noticed Brodus Clay's disco ball. He'll be wrestling tonight or at least dancing.

Josh Mathews backstage interviews Sheamus. Sheamus says he's not worried about Ziggler, he's worried about Del Rio tonight.

The Miz gets introduced to come out. He mentions that he was filming the Marine and inserts himself into the WWE Championship Money in the Bank ladder match.

World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio
I just noticed that the turnbuckle posts are green, because this match isn't good enough to be focused on really. I like Del Rio's new ring gear. Not a whole lot is going on. This kind of feels like a filler match or a Smackdown main event. Sheamus eventually hits the Brogue Kick.

WINNER: Sheamus via pinfall.
Kind of boring, not that great

After the match, Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez beat Sheamus down.

Dolph Ziggler comes out with the briefcase! Del Rio tries to stop him and Ziggler hits Del Rio with the briefcase. Sheamus Brogue Kicks Ziggler - but the bell didn't ring so the match isn't official and Ziggler still has the Money in the Bank contract.

Kofi Kingston and R-Truth come out in suits."Nothing says class like a suit with a do-rag" - Chris Urban, 5 seconds before Booker T said it.

The Primetime Players vs. Epico and Primo
Young and O'Neil have to win this. Blah. How long before they fuck up a move and - there you go. Wait a minute, Primo is able to get a quick pin on Darren Young instead.

WINNERS: Primo and Epico via pinfall.
Crap.

TPP and AW go over to taunt Kingston and Truth. Truth throws his water in Washington's face.

Matt Striker interviews AJ. She acts all crazy again and says CM Punk is an amazing human being. Daniel Bryan is her first love and has a special place in her heart.

WWE Championship [No Disqualification]: CM Punk (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Pretty generic at first. Time to brawl on the outside for a while. AJ's counting fine, not having stalls or anything. AJ takes a bump when Punk gets whipped into her by Daniel Bryan. Two referees and the trainer come out while Punk and Bryan check up on her (but Bryan throws Punk into the steps). AJ leaves. Crowd is split-chanting for both Punk and Bryan. Punk springboards on the security barricade and clotheslines Daniel Bryan."We want tables" chant right before Punk pulls a table out. Bryan gets a kendo stick but Punk is able to get it off him. Bryan escapes a hit and takes it back, hitting Punk in the ribs when he springboards. Bryan reverses a GTS attempt into a hurricanrana but can't get the 3-count. Bryan puts him in a surfboard and Punk gets out of it, reaches the kendo stick and pelts the living shit out of him. AJ comes back out, telling the referee to leave. She skips around, gets out of the ring, looks underneath it and pulls out a steel chair. AJ puts it in the center of the ring between the two of them and they fight over it. Daniel Bryan gets it and starts hitting Punk in the back. Two-count. Punk rolls him up but gets a two-count as well. The chair is set up at the turnbuckle but AJ stands in front of it so Punk can't throw Daniel Bryan into it. Bryan dropkicks Punk into it instead. AJ steps on the kendo stick, preventing Daniel Bryan from getting it. Punk blasts Bryan with a kick, then bodyslams him and the chair together. Bryan moves out of the way from the elbow drop and Punk hits the chair instead. Bryan puts him in the Yes Lock with the kendo stick. Punk gets out and hits the GTS. He takes a while to crawl over, so there's probably a kick out. Yup. Punk sets up the table in the ring and puts Bryan on it. Bryan gets off before Punk jumps off the ropes. Punk hits a side suplex from the middle rope on Bryan through the table. Punk pins Bryan and AJ counts it for the win.

WINNER: CM Punk via pinfall.
Very good match. Match of the night so far.

AJ sits down Indian-style like Punk after the match, then rewards him with his title belt.

Ryback vs. Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks
They're actually getting some offense on Ryback - particularly Reks.

WINNER: Ryback via pinfall.
These matches aren't as exciting when they're more than a squash.

Layla, Kaitlyn, and Tamina vs. Natalya, Beth Phoenix, and Eve Torres
Crap match turns to crap with everyone in the ring. Layla hits her neckbreaker on Beth. That's the end.

WINNERS: Layla, Kaitlyn, and Tamina via pinfall.
Divas.

WWE Championship Money in the Bank Ladder Match: John Cena vs. Big Show vs. Kane vs. Miz vs. Chris Jericho
Not a lot of highlights so far. Cena gives Big Show the AA on the Spanish announcer's table. Kane and Miz start throwing ladders on top of Big Show until Jericho hits them both with a ladder to break it up. Jericho locks in a mean Liontamer on the Miz. Miz climbs the ladder and Kane just chucks another ladder at him.Cena gives a Five Knuckle Shuffle to Jericho and Miz at the same time on a ladder, then gives an AA to Kane on top of Miz. Big Show gets back into the ring and breaks one of the ladders (on the inside part). He then breaks the ladder in half so there's two sections of it separate.Big Show destroys everyone and pulls out the giant gold and black ladder from before. Big Show is down after Jericho attacks him with a chair. Cena gets ready to AA Jericho off the big ladder, but Jericho reverses into a sleeper hold. Cena keeps climbing. Miz climbs but Jericho punches him down while still on Cena. Cena drops and Jericho is alone. Miz climbs up and Jericho and him are fighting over the briefcase.Jericho holds on and it swings away but Miz catches him. Big Show starts to climb and hits Jericho with the WMD, then Miz. Cena climbs and blocks a punch with the briefcase, then starts hitting Show with the case. Cena takes the case down and wins, and looks so crazy doing it.

WINNER: John Cena
Funny match in a lot of situations, ending perfectly with Cena's hilarious face

HIGH SPOTS
1. WWE Championship match
2. WHC Money in the Bank ladder match
3. The idea of Dolph Ziggler winning

LOW BLOWS
1. Divas match
2. Epico and Primo against Primetime Players
3. Ryback match

CRITIQUE RATING SCALE: 2-COUNT NEAR-FALL (Meh)
Reasoning: Some good matches with some crap peppered in.
