WWE Backlash 2020 Spoilers

Edge vs. Randy Orton

This is a "straight-up wrestling match" as in, it's just a regular match. It's hard to say that's something to look more forward to than their Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania, but I know a lot of you weren't fond of that contest, so maybe you're more into this.

Orton has to cheat to win...right? Low blow when the referee isn't looking, exposed turnbuckle, holding the tights, something like that?

PREDICTION: Randy Orton wins.

WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Bobby Lashley

While it's a bit of a rush job, it makes perfect sense Lashley is the next challenger. Backlash is a throwaway event in many ways and it's coming up fast. Plenty of other potential feuds for McIntyre (Orton, Styles, Mahal) need more time to build and can be treated as bigger deals. Lashley can be pushed rather quickly, lose, and get out of the way.

That's mostly what I'm expecting to happen here. Lashley's been building up steam so he can put up a decent enough fight against McIntyre, but lose. No way in hell he's winning that title.

PREDICTION: Drew McIntyre wins.

Universal Championship Handicap Match: Braun Strowman (c) vs. John Morrison and The Miz

I guess WWE decided Backlash wasn't a strong enough event to have the next match with The Fiend and wanted to drag that out a bit until at least Extreme Rules, if not SummerSlam (or both).

As far as a replacement match...eh. I'm a fan of Morrison and Miz, so I don't like when they're made to look bad. However, they're chicken shit heels, so I guess it makes sense. It's not like they're putting in a lot of effort to build it up, but it's not like there's going to be an uproar about that, either.

PREDICTION: Braun Strowman wins.

Raw Women's Championship Match: Asuka (c) vs. Nia Jax

Makes sense. Jax is a physical threat that Asuka can overcome and then drop the title to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam. I have zero interest in seeing the match itself, though, which I think will be rough.

PREDICTION: Asuka wins.

Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus

It took them a little longer to get to this than I had originally anticipated, since it seemed primed for Money in the Bank, but this was inevitable. Since Hardy won their first encounter, I'm assuming Sheamus wins this and they have another fight with some sort of gimmick attached to it at Extreme Rules. They might still be fighting come SummerSlam, too, for that matter.

PREDICTION: Sheamus wins.

Women's Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match: Bayley and Sasha Banks (c) vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. The IIconics

This seemed like the direction they were going, but I didn't think the title would change hands until the pay-per-view. Now that Bayley and Sasha just won them, I can't imagine they'd drop them this quickly. However, there's a slight chance The IIconics pick them up and they run with the idea that Bayley and Banks couldn't hold onto the belts for even a single defense because of their issues. That would be more likely if Extreme Rules wasn't the next event. If Banks and Bayley feud (I say IF, not WHEN, because it's been 2+ years of teasing this story), it will be at SummerSlam or afterward, not at Extreme Rules.

PREDICTION: Banks and Bayley win.

United States Championship Match: Apollo Crews (c) vs. Andrade

Pretty standard affair. They didn't quite go with the rematch clause, as Andrade won a Triple Threat match against Angel Garza and Kevin Owens to get this shot, but he's still the former champion getting a chance to win his title back. It's effectively the same thing. But they just gave Crews some new theme music, so I don't think we'll see the belt go straight back to Andrade right now.

PREDICTION: Apollo Crews wins.

PREDICTED MATCHES (as of 6/8/2020)

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits (c) vs. The Viking Raiders

This seems like a guarantee.

PREDICTION: The Street Profits win.

I hope they don't have Cesaro vs. Shorty G, Otis vs. King Corbin or some other crappy rematch singles feud things that nobody would care about just because it's Backlash.
