A new WWE United States champion has been crowned as Bobby Roode defeated Jinder Mahal in the finals of the United States Championship tournament on the January 16, 2018 edition of SmackDown Live—two weeks earlier than originally planned.

My immediate reaction: I would have been good with either of them winning, but I do like Roode holding the title in theory better, as he can hold that belt going into WrestleMania and eventually win the Money in the Bank later this year, then a world title after that. Mahal would have just done the same gimmick he's done before. Neat. I'm a fan of Roode, so this is a win.
