WWE Over the Limit 2011 Predictions of Results

Posted by Anthony Mango Monday, May 2, 2011

Coming off what I considered a rather lackluster Extreme Rules pay-per-view, what does WWE have in store for Over the Limit if anything? For one, I'm not a fan of having 2 pay-per-views in one month, especially when one of them (this one) serves no real purpose and doesn't even have a gimmick attached to it that matters like Money in the Bank does.

WWE Championship [I Quit Match]: John Cena (c) vs. The Miz
Come on. Do you really think they're going to have John Cena say "I Quit"? To borrow from the Miz...really? Really? REALLY? Absolutely no way, unfortunately, is the Miz winning the title back here.

PREDICTION: John Cena retains the title.

World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. Christian
Absolutely no way is Christian winning the title here. You may think that they'd consider it, after all the backlash they got for having him drop it in the first place, but WWE is too stubborn to do something like that. They won't be redacting their decision to have Orton as the focal point of the brand. That would admit they were wrong. (Though in my opinion, Orton's better suited to carry the brand, so it technically isn't "wrong" in my mind, just that they went about it in a poor way). The whole segment with Christian putting over "Teddy Long's decision" and saying that Orton beat him fair and square was just the WWE trying to convince you to go along with their plan. It's similar to when all politicians hate each other during the primaries, yet when one of them finally wins their spot on the party's ballot, all the others have nothing but good things to say about the choice. "Yes, I hated that guy two weeks ago, but now that he's the Republican/Democrat on the ticket, he's now my best friend and you should all vote for him." This is a stall match at a throwaway ppv which will end with Orton still the champion and Christian leaving the title picture, becoming fodder and a stepping stone for whatever heel challenges Orton next.

PREDICTION: Randy Orton wins, then starts feuding with Mark Henry, then Sheamus (for SummerSlam), then either Cody or Barrett.

Intercontinental Championship: Wade Barrett (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson
This feels like an idea they had relatively recent, which convinces me that Wade will drop the title. I just hope this match isn't a standard "the two guys fight and it starts getting good until the Corre interrupts and everything gets too confusing for the idiot ref to understand, then someone capitalizes on that and gets the win" type of match. That being said...it will.

PREDICTION: Ezekiel wins via pinfall after Gabriel and Slater try screwing it up but are then stopped by Kane and Big Show.

Michael Cole vs. Jerry "the King" Lawler
Cole's won the first two, so Lawler HAS to win this, especially since they're talking about a whole Hall of Fame thing going on with the angle. This "kiss my foot" stipulation is lame and I hope they don't waste 5 minutes on it...but they will.

PREDICTION: Jerry Lawler wins.

Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth
R-Truth has to win this. He can't come out, attack people, then lose. It will kill his push's credibility. That being said, never count out them having Mysterio win anyway.

PREDICTION: R-Truth better win it. I never thought I'd hear myself say that.

Tag Team Championship: Kane & Big Show (c) vs. CM Punk & Mason Ryan
Since I've been reminded about the upcoming Jinder Mahal & Khali tag team, I think Kane and Big Show have to win this and retain. This is probably just a stall until they can team those two up. WWE cares so little about this match that they haven't even put it on the website yet as of this writing.

PREDICTION: Kane and Big Show retain.

Divas Championship: Brie Bella (c) vs. Kelly Kelly
I think it's weird that Kelly has been here so long and hasn't won the title, considering how others that have less experience have won it by now. That, combined with the Kharma stuff going on, seems to point to Kelly winning the title here.

PREDICTION: Kelly wins the title.

Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero
This should be a good match. I expect Sin Cara to come out on top, but I'd actually like to see Chavo win just to get them into a legitimate feud. I don't think everyone needs to start off with a 20 match winning streak.

PREDICTION: Sin Cara wins.

PREDICTED MATCHES
The only two things they may add to the card in some capacity, not necessarily a match, are Del Rio and Kharma attacking Kelly afterward.
