WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Spoilers |
30-Man Royal Rumble Match (2024)
Confirmed Participants = Cody Rhodes
I'm VERY suspicious of the potential that WWE prioritizes the idea of "Roman Reigns beats The Rock at WrestleMania" and/or "Roman Reigns has to beat Hulk Hogan's record" above everything else, and with The Rock confirming he was penciled in for WrestleMania 39, and this Royal Rumble happening in Florida, AND on top of that, being the first one under the Endeavor era, I'm totally convinced WWE might want to have Roman Reigns beat The Rock at WrestleMania 40 after The Rock wins the 2024 Royal Rumble. Then, Roman Reigns keeps the title for another whole year of basically taking 75% of the time off. That puts him past September 2024 where he'll beat Hogan's record. Finally, he can drop the title at WrestleMania 41.
With that in mind, I think the BACKUP plan is for Cody Rhodes to get a rematch and tell the Rocky II storyline with him beating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. That's only if WWE is more concerned with telling the best story for that title and to put it on Cody, and that they don't prioritize the Roman stuff. History has shown that they will slash and burn multiple performers and multiple years worth of the title scene just to get a single WrestleMania main event, though. Look at the way Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens went down. They screwed those guys over and put the title on Goldberg just so he could lose it to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. So the only way Cody Rhodes wins the Royal Rumble a second year in a row and then beats Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 is if THAT is their main story they want to tell, but I'm just not convinced.
But I had thought that even if Cody Rhodes is Roman's opponent, that he wouldn't win the Royal Rumble twice in a row. Instead, I was thinking Gunther might win to challenge Seth Rollins, or that CM Punk might come back and do the same. Lo and behold, CM Punk IS back in WWE, and that immediately makes me jump to that conclusion.
Effectively, these are the scenarios I think could happen, in order of how likely I would bet on them:
- CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble to challenge Seth Rollins. Cody Rhodes wins Elimination Chamber to challenge Roman Reigns.
- CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble to challenge Seth Rollins. The Rock just gets announced arbitrarily to fight Roman Reigns. Cody Rhodes fights Randy Orton.
- The Rock wins the Royal Rumble and challenges Roman Reigns. CM Punk wins Elimination Chamber and challenges Seth Rollins. Cody Rhodes fights Randy Orton.
- CM Punk wins the Royal Rumble and challenges Roman Reigns. Then, I have no clue what they do for Rollins, but Rhodes vs. Orton probably still happens.
The biggest hurdle for everyone is going to be whether or not The Rock is fighting Roman Reigns. If that happens, and if they can get The Rock to appear at this Royal Rumble, he is 100% without a doubt winning it. The Rock WILL NOT show up to lose this match.
PREDICTION: I'm leaning toward CM Punk, then The Rock, then Cody Rhodes.
30-Woman Royal Rumble Match (2024)
Confirmed Participants = n/a
I'm not convinced Iyo Sky is going to be holding her title by the time WrestleMania 40 comes around. I do think, however, that Rhea Ripley will still be champion.
Ripley is going to fight Becky Lynch. I'm sold on that. Maybe that means Becky is the favorite to win.
But there's the Jade Cargill of it all. Does she win and challenge either Bianca Belair and/or Charlotte Flair? If either of them wins the title from Iyo Sky, I think that becomes the top bet. I don't see Cargill winning and fighting Iyo Sky, though. I also don't think Bayley wins to face Iyo, or anything along those lines, either.
PREDICTION: Becky Lynch wins to challenge Rhea Ripley or Jade Cargill wins to challenge Bianca Belair / Charlotte Flair if either of them beats Iyo Sky for SmackDown's top title.
