Wednesday Night War: AEW Dynamite vs. WWE NXT Review (October 9, 2019)

Posted by Anthony Mango Friday, October 11, 2019
Welcome to another edition of Wednesday Night War from Smark Out Moment, where we compare this week's episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT and determine which one of the two was the better show.

which wrestling TV show was better this week NXT vs AEW

WEDNESDAY NIGHT WAR:

AEW DYNAMITE vs. NXT

FACTOR 1: MATCHES

AEW's matches surpassed NXT's. For the most part, the NXT side of things was only really Rush/Gulak and Belair/Kai for me, while the others were filler. AEW had more to offer.

WINNER: AEW

FACTOR 2: PROMOS

AEW had a funny moment with Orange Cassidy, but that doesn't top Velveteen Dream. Nope, I'm not all that into Chris Jericho's promo like some other people have been.

WINNER: NXT

FACTOR 3: STORYLINES

NXT saw The Forgotten Sons continue their feud with Breezango after how many weeks of being on the sidelines? Strong and Dream are still feuding. Cole and Ciampa was touched on, but Balor didn't get any advancement other than Cole simply saying his name. They're going back to what has already been done with Baszler vs. Ripley or Belair. Killian Dain now just beats people up to look strong since he lost.

Meanwhile, with AEW, there's been an interesting wrinkle in the Omega vs. Moxley feud as they seem to almost respect each other a bit, while Pac is just being...well...a bastard. Nothing more on Baker/Priestley worth talking about. The lines are being drawn with Inner Circle vs. Cody's crew.

WINNER: AEW

FACTOR 4: SCHEDULING / PACING

I was beyond exhausted watching both of these, after having been up for over a day at that point. However, even though I watched NXT live and AEW afterward, I actually found myself falling asleep during NXT more times than AEW.

WINNER: AEW

EXTRA CREDIT BONUS ROUND!!!

No points subtracted or added to AEW.

NXT gains points for booking Gulak as a heel who also recognizes competition. He's one of the more nuanced characters going on in WWE right now, where you can respect and boo him at the same time. I'm also fond of how they've just gone full-force with Breezango being a bunch of strippers instead of trying to beat around the bush. That was hilarious.

NXT lost a point for the whole Cameron Grimes, Boa and Killian Dain thing. That was so pointless.

POINT ADJUSTMENTS: AEW (+0 / -0) / NXT (+2 / -1)

THIS WEEK'S WINNER = AEW

That's my pick for the better show of the week, but how do YOU stand?
Which was better, Dynamite or NXT?
