Women's Wrestling Weekly Recap & Review: 11/11/2017

Posted by Gabby Velasquez Saturday, November 11, 2017
Welcome to another edition of WOMEN'S WRESTLING WEEKLY—a rundown of the events which have transpired in the world of women's professional wrestling over the past several days not just with the Superstars on WWE programming, but with GFW's Knockouts, Lucha Underground's luchadoras, and even a glimpse at the women on the independent circuit.

WWE Monday Night Raw

Asuka vs. Stacie Coates

Stacie Coates was not ready for Asuka.

Also, that's the second Stacie Asuka has bested in a row. Is this a trend? If you'd like to see more of her work on the indies, look her up as Isla Dawn. She's loaded with talent.

Winner: Asuka
Rating: 2.5/5

Alicia Fox & Nia Jax vs. Bayley & Sasha Banks

Look, there's nothing more powerful than the power of friendship, even if most friendships in WWE end with the sting of inevitable betrayal. Captain Alicia Fox and Nia Jax couldn't best the power of friendship...and Bayley's sleeper hold on Jax coupled with Banks' Banks Statement on Fox.

The dynamics of Raw's women are actually a lot of fun. There's nuances to each of their interactions that could, if booked properly, fuel a plethora of unique, fun feuds. Of course, one can only wonder how much longer Bayley and Sasha's friendship will last, considering WWE's track record with dynamic duos. However, that all depends on where WWE plans to have them end up come WrestleMania.

Heel Sasha, someday we'll have you again...

Winner: Asuka
Rating: 2/5

WWE SmackDown

Becky Lynch vs. James Ellsworth

Okay, SmackDown, I forgive you.

With SmackDown's women gathered at ringside, Becky Lynch took on her Twitter nemesis James Ellsworth in what must be the first intergender WWE match in years. Certainly since I began writing these recaps. Anyways, Lynch controlled much of the match, showing her superior technique and relentlessness. Ellsworth could find no safe harbor, and tapped out to the Dis-Arm Her.

His day got even worse when Carmella planted him right int he center of the ring and strutted off.

Awesome.

Winner: Becky Lynch
Rating: 3.5/5

WWE NXT

Kairi Sane vs. Billie Kay

Look, whenever Kairi Sane is in the ring, the sun shines and sparkles and rainbows rain down from the heavens. That's how entertaining she is.

After some early signs of life from one half of the Iconic Duo, Sane took over and maintained control, dropping her famous elbow on kay for the pinfall victory. She looked dominant and maintained her normal resilience throughout the match, as well as her infectious cheer before and after.

Winner: Kairi Sane
Rating: 2.5/5

GFW Impact Wrestling Bound for Glory

Gail Kim vs. Sienna vs. Allie

Gail Kim is a legend. A trailblazer. And, of course, the woman is a damn good wrestler.

Kim pinned Allie after landing two Eat Defeats on both her and Sienna, and what a wonderful way to win it was. The ottowa crowd ate it up and gave her the ovation a career like hers deserves, Congrats on the title, Gail! What a way to go out.

Winners: Gail Kim
Rating: 3.5/5

GFW Impact Wrestling

Allie vs. KC Spinelli

Allie gained back a victory after eating the pin at Bound for Glory, and continued to show why she's not just an adorable, quirky character. She's physical and engaging in the ring, and she remains easier than ever to root for.

Gail Kim is set to make a special announcement next week. Retirement, perhaps, or does she have one more match left in her?

Winners: Allie
Rating: 3/5

Becky Lynch vs. James Ellsworth

Becky Jean King went out and looked like an absolute star against James Ellsworth. She and Ellsworth constructed the match wonderfully. She never looked like or felt like a victim. Instead, the match was fun, empowering, and wholly engaging.

WOMAN OF THE WEEK:
Gail Kim & Becky Lynch

This week it's a tie between the future of women's wrestling and one of its greatest pioneers in the modern era. As Gail Kim's historic career reaches its twilight, Becky Lynch seems to be finally climbing the ranks tog et back to the top of the card where she belongs.
