PROMO: AJ Styles heads to the ring to talk about his United States title victory two nights ago at SummerSlam. He issues another United States Open Challenge. Out comes Kevin Owens. Styles denies it, since he just beat him. Owens says Shane McMahon screwed him and Styles should take no credit in beating him. Shane interrupts. Owens complains that Shane recently said the referee's decision stands, but he didn't apply the same rule to what happened at SummerSlam. Styles grants Owens the rematch and even lets Owens pick the referee, but this is KO's very last shot at the United States title so long as Styles is the champion.

BACKSTAGE: Daniel Bryan is on the phone talking about how he has a few big surprises for tonight. The Singh Brothers and Jinder Mahal come up to him to gloat. Bryan says Mahal can't win without the help of The Singh Brothers. Shinsuke Nakamura deserves retribution tonight.

BACKSTAGE: Kevin Owens approaches Sami Zayn, of all people. He says he needs someone he can trust and he's the only one that fits the bill. Zayn says they've been fighting for so long, he forgets what they're fighting about. Owens agrees and says they shouldn't be fighting each other. He can finally do something that matters on SmackDown tonight.

Aiden English is in the ring for a song. Mid-song, he's interrupted by Bobby Roode!

MATCH: Bobby Roode defeats Aiden English by pinfall. After the match, Renee Young enters the ring to talk to Roode, who says everything he touches and everything he does is big box office. In a New York minute, SmackDown went from being great to being absolutely glorious.

BACKSTAGE: Chad Gable and Daniel Bryan talk about Jason Jordan. In exchange for Jordan to Raw, Kurt Angle agreed to sign one of his friends: Shelton Benjamin! Next week, they'll have a tag team match.

BACKSTAGE: Kevin Owens hands a referee shirt to Sami Zayn, who says he thought about it real long and hard and he's not going to do the job.

MATCH: The Usos defeat The Hype Bros by pinfall. After the match, The Usos get the mic and gloat about their title win.

2-on-1 HANDICAP MATCH: Shinsuke Nakamura defeats The Singh Brothers by submission. Afterward, Jinder Mahal attacks Nakamura, who fights back and lays out the champion.

BACKSTAGE: The Fashion Police stop Kevin Owens. They volunteer to be the referees, but Owens says no. He then bumps into Baron Corbin, who says he'll do it so long as he gets the first title shot when Owens wins the belt.

PROMO: Natalya gloats about her title win. Carmella interrupts to "congratulate" her and to remind her of the Money in the Bank contract.

MATCH: Naomi and Becky Lynch defeat Natalya and Carmella by pinfall

INTERVIEW: Dasha Fuentes welcomes back Dolph Ziggler, who is mad that it's just a backstage interview and not a more grandiose return. Now, he knows what it takes to be a star in WWE. He's going to start singing, play a guitar, maybe rap a little bit, dance around like an idiot. He'll get a big, fancy robe and lasers and a beautiful valet who glows in the dark. That's exactly what he plans on doing...next week.

BACKSTAGE: Lana gets off the phone, saying Tamina's ravishing journey to the title begins next week. (Why is everything next week?) She asks her to close her eyes and imagine all the people gossiping and doubting her and such. They won't stop until Tamina becomes champion and the most feared woman on SmackDown Live.

BACKSTAGE: Baron Corbin implies that if he helps Styles win, he deserves a title match. Styles informs him that he just needs to take advantage of the open challenge.

UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ Styles (c) defeats Kevin Owens after Shane McMahon replaces Baron Corbin as the special guest referee and calls it down the middle, much to the dismay of Owens
