If they reinstate their service, everything will be operational again, but until then, I need to use a different poll service. Sorry at how messy this is going to be until I get things sorted out.

Wrestling Smack Talk: 5/26/2012

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, May 26, 2012

What's been going on this week in the world of professional wrestling? It's time to break it down in the latest edition of SMACK TALK, my wrestling podcast and the quick notes below. Make sure to subscribe, comment on the videos and this post, and let us know your thoughts.

Watch each part below:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11

  • Don't forget to vote on the latest group of matches for the hottest divas & knockouts tournament
  • Chris Jericho was suspended and almost arrested for kicking ("desecrating") the Brazilian flag at a live event. He was forced to publicly apologize as well. Ridiculous.
  • Jericho finally explained the ItBegins2012 promo's purpose of the little girl, saying that there wasn't one and we were all looking into it too much. Ridiculous as well. That's just a cover up answer to admit that you didn't have a plan and gave up.
  • Ric Flair has heat on him for partying too much. He's also in the forefront of the lawsuit that TNA is putting out there for WWE, saying that they received insider information on contracts (such as the rumored Alex Shelley and Matt Morgan coming to WWE and leaving TNA possibilities). Stay tuned for this one, it could get very interesting.
  • Lilian Garcia and Justin Roberts supposedly had a big argument during Over the Limit over her screwing up so much. Both of them have since denied that that's true. You can never trust either side 100% when it comes to these things. Dirt sheets aren't always reliable and at the same time, people lie all the time on Twitter to cover their asses.
  • Seems like WWE has another list ranking superstars that has irked some people. This time, it's about WCW stars. Regal and others have expressed some disinterest or disgust at their ranking on said list.
  • Lots of talk that the 3 hour Raw concept will be a failure and not stick. Well that's optimistic, isn't it? Yeesh.

WWE No Way Out 2012 Predictions of Results, PPV Spoilers

Posted by Anthony Mango - Sunday, May 20, 2012

Watch WWE No Way Out 2012 PPV Stream
WWE No Way Out 2012 PPV - this time, it's not with the Elimination Chamber, but they're doing a bunch of "no escape" clause type matches. Expect to see a cage match, a strap match, probably handcuffs, a lumberjack match (or lumberjill) and so forth that they'll most likely replace next year with a different event. Here are my predictions for the pay-per-view. No Way Out 2012 results/review are here.

Watch Steel Cage Cena Big Show No Way Out Online

Steel Cage Match: Big Show vs. John Cena
Naturally, after the events of Over the Limit, this was a no-brainer. I don't think a cage match will be particularly exciting for these two, as Big Show can't climb it without Cena over-selling everything. I hope they prove me wrong, but I'm not expecting to enjoy this much.

PREDICTION: John Cena wins because he lost at the last pay-per-view.

Dolph Ziggler vs Sheamus No Way Out 2012 World Heavyweight Title Match

World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
I'm much more looking forward to this match than I was when it was Alberto Del Rio instead of Dolph Ziggler. Sheamus will retain here, but I hope that this becomes the thing that lets them know they can put faith in Ziggler. I want Ziggler and Barrett (if he can, if not, Cody Rhodes) to win the Money in the Bank respectively, so maybe this match will accomplish that. Ziggler fills in a spot that they need at the last minute, does a good job consistently, and then can be rewarded with a future world title.

PREDICTION: Sheamus retains.

WWE No Way Out 2012 CM Punk Daniel Bryan Kane WWE Championship

WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Kane vs. Daniel Bryan
Good thing that they're following through with this and having Kane involved in the match itself. So far, this isn't really falling into the "No Way Out" concept, nor is the Sheamus versus Del Rio match, so I'm curious what's going on there. I figured originally that they'd have some kind of a submission match between Bryan and Punk instead. Oh well. Kane should take the pinfall here or Punk pins Bryan after Kane chokeslams him or something. Punk's not dropping the title yet, unless he wins it right back. He'll be champ for SummerSlam.

PREDICTION: CM Punk retains.

Intercontinental Championship Christian vs Cody Rhodes No Way Out 2012 Match

Intercontinental Championship: Christian (c) vs. Cody Rhodes
This should be a good match. I'm hoping Christian wins so Cody can move on to bigger and better things. If the two Money in the Bank winners aren't Dolph Ziggler and Wade Barrett, I'd like to see Cody fill the spot that Barrett is on my list. I don't think he's ready for a world title yet, but he'll have months to feud with upper midcarders and set himself up for a title reign post-Mania I hope.

PREDICTION: Christian retains.

YouTube David Otunga vs Brodus Clay No Way Out 2012 Pre-Show PPV

Pre-Show on YouTube: Brodus Clay vs. David Otunga
Not a bad idea, but I would have rather seen Brodus on the card itself instead of the Triple H promo that they'll do. Look out for that being a complaint of mine when I do the review. At least these guys get on the card, though.

PREDICTION: Brodus Clay wins.

Watch Tuxedo Match No Way Out 2012 PPV Santino vs Ricardo

Tuxedo Match: Santino Marella vs. Ricardo Rodriguez
I don't see why this is on the card other than to fill time. Meh. This card sucks. I like Santino and Ricardo a lot but I have no interest in this.

PREDICTION: Santino wins.

No Way Out PPV Divas Championship Layla vs Beth Phoenix Divas Title

Divas Championship: Layla (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
No interest whatsoever, no real build because they don't care either.

PREDICTION: Layla wins.

PREDICTED MATCHES
With Del Rio's potential replacement, Orton and Jericho not being on the card, R-Truth's injury, and a few other snags like that, the card suffered so much and they filled it with crap. Ryback will probably have a match. That's about it.

Wrestling Smack Talk: 5/19/2012

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, May 19, 2012

What's been going on this week in the world of professional wrestling? It's time to break it down in the latest edition of SMACK TALK, my wrestling podcast and the quick notes below. Make sure to subscribe, comment on the videos and this post, and let us know your thoughts.

Watch each part below:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9

  • Don't forget to vote on the latest group of matches for the hottest divas & knockouts tournament
  • Mark Henry has undergone surgery and has said that if he doesn't come back 100%, he might be retiring. I sincerely hope that he fully recovers and can stay on the roster for a while longer, as I've always been a fan of him and I think he's doing the best work he's ever done in this past year or so.
  • Raw is going to be 3 hours starting July 23rd. This is either going to be AWFUL or AWESOME. Rumors say it might be a pre-show, and if that's the case, I hope they use that to do all their stupid recap bullshit so I can fast forward the entire thing and never have to watch it on the 2 true hours of the show.
  • WWE is interested in Ric Flair's daughter, meanwhile TNA has signed Brooke Hogan? What's going on?
  • Dusty Rhodes is the new GM of NXT and it seems like they're definitely going to include more FCW people right off the bat. Maybe there's a reason to watch NXT now?
  • Konnan says that Sin Cara and/or his posse pulled a gun out on Alberto Del Rio in the past. I'd put this in the speculation pile as well, folks, as this is just a story Konnan is telling. If it did happen, I wonder how they're able to work together in the same company when that happens. If it didn't, then Konnan's talking out of his ass for attention, and that's a shame. Either way, interesting.

WWE Over the Limit 2012 Results & Review Coverage Live

Posted by Anthony Mango - Tuesday, May 15, 2012

WWE Over the Limit 2012 PPV Predictions Spoilers Results Review
Watch WWE Over the Limit 2012 ppv live online coverage of results and review here. John Cena versus John Laurinaitis. CM Punk versus Daniel Bryan. Sheamus versus Alberto Del Rio versus Randy Orton versus Chris Jericho. Layla versus Beth Phoenix. Kofi Kingston and R-Truth versus Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. Pre-Show match with Zack Ryder versus Kane. You can check out my predictions here.

Starting off tonight is, naturally, the pre-show.

Pre-Show: Zack Ryder vs. Kane
More competitive match than I expected it to be, but sadly, Ryder was fed to Kane anyway. Hopefully this is the end of the feud between these two and Ryder can move on as well as Kane to bigger and better things.

WINNER: Kane via pinfall.
Still liking the preshow concept.

Jack Swagger on the pre-show is awesome, stating a bunch of total nonsense. Hopefully with the main event tonight, John Cena's wife doesn't cost him the match (I know that's awful but I had to).

The pay-per-view started with the battle royal already starting. The winner will face Santino or Cody for their title respectively.

#1 Contendership Battle Royal
I see McGillicutty, Reks, Kidd, Hawkins, Young, O'Neil, McIntyre, Riley, Slater, Khali, the Usos, Ezekiel, Christian, Regal, and I'm not sure who else.  Otunga, JTG, and Miz are in this as well as Jinder. Tatsu is out and looks possibly injured. One of the Usos is out as well as JTG and McGillicutty if I'm correct. McIntyre gets eliminated by Reks and Hawkins, who both get eliminated by Khali. Khali eliminates Jinder Mahal as well.Khali gets dumped out by Young, Titus, and Miz.  Others get eliminated and we're down to Darren Young, Alex Riley, Miz, Tyson Kidd, David Otunga, and Christian. Riley eliminates Darren Young. Miz eliminates Riley. Kidd is eliminated by Otunga. Now there's Christian, Otunga, and the Miz left. Christian eliminates Otunga. Christian then eliminates Miz.

WINNER: Christian via...you know how.
Interesting way to start off the pay-per-view.

Commercial for People Power.

Tag Team Championship: Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (c) vs. Jack Swagger & Dolph Ziggler
Even match, hoping that we have new tag team champions myself. Vickie gets a little distraction out there, helping Swagger get the upper hand on R-Truth. Ziggler's got the show off stuff going on, Swagger's got his ridiculous hair cut. Ziggler escapes an SOS but Kofi hits a splash from the top rope instead.Kofi hits the Trouble in Paradise.

WINNERS: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth via pinfall.
Not bad, not great.

Backstage, Hawkins and Reks are talking to Eve. They're supposed to confiscate signs in the audience that are anti-Laurinaitis.

Divas Championship: Layla (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
Beth looks like she's lost some weight or something (looks good). Layla naturally looks good as well, doesn't seem like she's got any leg problems or anything.Layla does some kind of move where she bounces off the ropes while Beth just watches her. That was awkward. Crowd is kind of dead for this, especially seeing as how Beth has Layla locked in a single leg Boston Crab and isn't doing much else. It's quite slow. Beth picks Layla up in a military press but Layla reverses into a DDT. Layla reverses the Glam Slam into a roll-up, but Beth reverses that as well, even though it's a two-count. Layla hits her neckbreaker and wins.

WINNER: Layla via pinfall.
Bland and uninteresting. Shame. This could have been decent.

Backstage, Orton is interviewed by Striker about how he thinks he's going to win, blah blah blah. Jericho comes out to boast, Orton says if he gets in his way he'll be the best in the world at getting RKO'ed.

World Heavyweight Championship [Fatal 4-Way]: Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho
Sheamus gets the least active reaction and even looks pissed off when he holds his belt up. Sign of a title change, perhaps? You know how these matches go, double-teams and someone sitting outside the ring for a while and so forth. Most of this match seems to be the three men other than Sheamus. Naturally, as I type that, Sheamus gets back into the ring. Orton gets ready to hit the RKO on Sheamus, but Del Rio locks in the armbreaker on Orton. Jericho breaks it up. Del Rio gets his legs up when Jericho tries the Lionsault. Now we're in finisher mode with everyone reversing and escaping and such.Orton hits the DDT off the ropes on both Del Rio and Ricardo at the same time. Jericho hits a Codebreaker on Orton but Orton rolls out of the ring. Del Rio goes for the armbreaker on Jericho. Jericho reverses into the Walls of Jericho.Sheamus misses a Brogue Kick and Jericho hits a Codebreaker on him. Two-count. Jericho gets the Walls of Jericho on Sheamus as well. Orton hits an RKO on Jericho but Del Rio breaks it up. Now it's crazy, everyone is in the ring being thrown around and such. Sheamus hits the White Noise on Jericho and retains.

WINNER: Sheamus via pinfall.
Good match. The best part was the ending. It took a little long to get started really, and that was a little frustrating, but overall it was good.

Backstage, Cody Rhodes is talking to Eve. He asks how Laurinaitis is doing. Eve says he's brave and an inspiration. Cody says Christian can legitimize the US title just like Cody did to the IC title. He says he'd have embarrassed Christian if he chose him. Christian comes up and says he's changed his mind and he's facing Cody instead.

The Miz comes out to talk to the crowd. Miz says Brodus Clay is what's wrong with WWE. Ugh, it seems like Miz is going to dance. I hate dance segments, especially on a pay-per-view. Miz dances like a douchebag and is interrupted by Brodus Clay's theme.

The Miz vs. Brodus Clay
Clay dominates, of course. Miz mostly gets some reversal kicks and such. Clay hits the Sheeplex from the top rope on Miz and finishes it with his splash.

WINNER: Brodus Clay via pinfall.
Clay's entertaining but Miz deserves more than this, etc.

Reks and Hawkins are taking signs now. They take one off Sign Guy as well.

Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Christian
So does Cody get disqualified or does Christian win? Cody's looking good, but Christian's putting up a fight as well. This could be a feud that lasts quite a while and does good for Cody. Nice steps/Beautiful Disaster kick. Nice moonsault as well. Christian hits the Killswitch and wins the title.

WINNER (and new IC champion): Christian via pinfall.
Good enough that I want to see this feud continue.

Backstage, Punk is interviewed by Mathews. AJ comes over and wishes Punk good luck.

WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Sign Guy has a sign that says "I made AJ say yes, yes, yes". 10 points to you, sir. Bryan's looking weird in this match....like he's just watching Punk. Punk switches the surfboard up and just kicks Bryan instead, ouch. Lots of reversals. This isn't really heating up the way I thought it was going to. It's disappointing so far. Bryan starts what looks like a surfboard of his own but he starts pulling Punk's mouth back instead. Now we're on the surfboard. Bryan then pulls Punk's head backward, then even more and locks his neck under his arm like a headlock. Ow, fuck. Two-count for Punk using a Perfect Plex. Daniel Bryan hits a headbutt from the top rope. Bryan's sticking to the yes-kicks. Punk puts Bryan in a Figure Four. Series of rollup two-counts and such ends with a solid kick to the head from Bryan, getting another 2. Bryan gets crotched on the ropes and hit with a springboard clothesline. Bryan reverses a GTS attempt into a two-count pin. Punk reverses a potential Yes Lock attempt into a catapult, but Bryan catches himself. Punk follows it up with a kick to the head and Bryan gets out of the pin by getting his foot on the ropes. Punk hits the elbow drop but holds his ribs afterward instead of going for a pin. Too long of a wait, another two-count. "Randy Savage" chant going on now. Bryan reverses the bulldog into the Yes Lock. Punk rolls over and pins Bryan just as he starts tapping out.

WINNER: CM Punk via pinfall.
Not as good as I was hoping, but decent.

Backstage, Otunga and Eve are talking to each other. Teddy Long is smiling and standing like an idiot. They say he's mistaken if he thinks he'd get his job back. He says instead, he would go for the two of those being in charge, or terminated.

Hunico is coming out, bike and all.

Camacho vs. Ryback
Ryback wins, right? Dominating, of course. Even Hunico kicking him in the back while the ref isn't looking did nothing. Here comes the finisher.

WINNER: Ryback via pinfall.
Squash.

Post-match, Ryback just kicks the bike.

John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis
Laurinaitis comes out wearing a track suit, kind of. Cena laughs. Ace starts the match off by trying to run out of the ringside area. Cena lifts up Johnny's shirt and gives him some slaps. Cena spins Laurinaitis around instead of giving him the Attitude Adjustment. He then brings the ring bell out to ring it right near his head. Cena puts a headset on Laurinaitis and himself and starts doing impressions. Laurinaitis says "five time" when he does his Booker impression. Cena gets a mic and says he's going to put Johnny in the STF, reminding him if he taps out, he's fired, but he'll let go if he can last ten seconds. Johnny lasts the ten seconds. He does it again and lasts another ten seconds. Cena dumps a bottle of water on Laurinaitis. Two bottles. Three bottles (though the third one was poured in his pants instead). Out comes the fire extinguisher. Cena dumps a trash can onto Laurinaitis (complete with popcorn and such). Ace goes to leave and Cena grabs him, but Laurinaitis hurts Cena's arm and is now in control. He pushes Cena into the steps and starts hitting him with a chair. Cena gets back in charge. Laurinaitis retorts with a low blow, then leaves the area while Cena stands in the ring. Big Show comes out with Laurinaitis, dragging him by the ear and throwing him back into the ringside area. He throws him back into the ring. How long before Big Show punches Cena? There you go, Show throws Laurinaitis to Cena, but punches Cena in the face when he picks him up for the AA. Laurinaitis pins Cena and wins.

WINNER: John Laurinaitis via pinfall.
Funny. Even funnier was the reaction the one guy in the front row has to this heel turn.

HIGH SPOTS
1. Battle royal with the IC title situation; interesting
2. WHC match
3. WWE title match

LOW BLOWS
1. Divas title match
2. Miz having nothing much to do but job to Brodus
3. Predictable outcome to the main event

CRITIQUE RATING SCALE: 2-COUNT NEAR-FALL (Meh)
Reasoning: Some interesting things, but overall it could have been much better.

Wrestling Smack Talk: 5/12/2012

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, May 12, 2012

What's been going on this week in the world of professional wrestling? It's time to break it down in the latest edition of SMACK TALK, my wrestling podcast and the quick notes below. Make sure to subscribe, comment on the videos and this post, and let us know your thoughts.

Watch each part below:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

  • Don't forget to vote on the latest group of matches for the hottest divas & knockouts tournament
  • CM Punk was talking about being for gay marriage and it resulted in him telling someone who disagreed with him to kill himself. He then told another person to drink bleach. Punk then went into PC mode and apologized for how he handled himself. I agree with Punk's point of view on gay marriage and I think people need to stop complaining about every little thing a celebrity says - but with that being said, he shouldn't have handled it that way, so I understand the apology as well.
  • Goldust has been released from WWE supposedly after the Darren Young/Titus O'Neil power bomb finisher botch on Yoshi Tatsu. Sounds like a bullshit excuse to me, but he probably did other things that put him on the edge and this was the final straw.
  • John Cena is filing for divorce from his wife Liz, his high school sweetheart. She's hired the same attorney that Linda Hogan used to get all the money she had from their settlement, but apparently Liz signed an extensive prenup that entitles John to take back anything he gave her even if it was a gift. Messy situation. It's a shame that they couldn't work things out.
  • FCW and NXT will be taping from Full Sail University from now on. This seems like a big step up for FCW and a big step down for NXT. I wouldn't be surprised if NXT basically became even more of a transitioning field for FCW stars than it is now.

TNA Sacrifice 2012 Results & Review PPV Coverage Live

Posted by Anthony Mango - Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Watch TNA Sacrifice 2012 Free Online Stream Live
TNA's Sacrifice 2012 PPV - here is your spot for live results coverage and a review to go along with it. Who is going to win? TNA Champion Bobby Roode versus Rob Van Dam. Kurt Angle versus AJ Styles. Samoa Joe and Magnus versus Daniels and Kazarian. Jeff Hardy versus Mr. Anderson. Austin Aries versus Bully Ray. Gail Kim versus Brooke Tessmacher.

PREDICTIONS: I'm expecting Bobby Roode to retain the title as well as Gail Kim. Samoa Joe and Magnus makes sense to keep it, but who knows, so I wouldn't be surprised if Kazarian and Daniels won the titles. Hardy should beat Anderson, Aries should beat Bully Ray, and I have a feeling Kurt Angle will beat AJ Styles.

Should I point out that the logo is basically the Batman symbol and Sting's been going around ripping off the Joker from The Dark Knight for all that time? Nope, I should look past it? Ok then. The pay-per-view is about to start.

Earl Hebner tells Bobby Roode that Hogan wants the championship to hang from the ladder. Roode gets pissed and says he'll get it back. Why is this promo about presidential quotes?

Tag Team Championship: Samoa Joe & Magnus (c) vs. Kazarian & Daniels
I'm surprised Magnus never went to WWE. He has a look that I'm sure they'd be interested in. Joe and Magnus are more over with the crowd that I was expecting - that's a good thing. Some good tag team wrestling with Kazarian and Daniels, using lots of double team moves and such. They show that Joseph Parks is in the crowd. Joe starts taking it to both Kazarian and Daniels after Magnus went through lots of punishment. Joe and Magnus hit their finishing move but Kazarian pulls Magnus off Daniels. This leads to a double team with Kazarian and Daniels double-teaming Magnus to win.

WINNERS (and new tag team champions): Kazarian and Christopher Daniels via pinfall.
Not a bad start to the pay-per-view. It's helped by the title switch.

Knockouts Championship: Gail Kim (c) vs. Brooke Tessmacher
I don't care if Brooke wants people to think of her as more than just a model - that's her strong suit. She should definitely be hard to beat at the tournament. Gail jumps right after Brooke to start the match. Twice early on, Brooke goes for Gail Kim's finisher unsuccessfully. Gail gets back in charge, dictating the match. Brooke's improved quite a bit from what she came from, I'm surprised, and enjoying it. She hits an elbow drop from the ropes and gets a two-count. Gail goes for her finisher but Brooke reverses into that herself, sending Gail out of the ring, preventing her from being able to get a three-count. Gail quickly pins Brooke with her feet on the ropes and the ref doesn't notice.

WINNER: Gail Kim via pinfall.
Not a bad match either. I hope they keep this up.

Backstage, Borash talks to Daniels and Kazarian. Kazarian says AJ became the face of the company by "whistling Dixie" while they prove themselves by beating people up. AJ's nightmare is just beginning and everyone has their permission to worship them.

TV Championship: Devon (c) vs. Robbie E vs. Robbie T
Devon takes it to both of them despite how it's essentially a handicapped match. Eventually, that proves too much for him and the Robbies team up. There's a really bad spot where Devon's looking at Robbie E on the outside but right next to Robbie T getting up and about to attack him. Poorly done. Robbie E stops the attempt that Robbie T had at getting the pin, saying he's the one who should get the pin. Devon capitalizes and rolls up Robbie T to win.

WINNER: Devon via pinfall.
Meh, I'm not a huge fan of Devon holding this title, nor this match really.

Robbie E goes to hug Robbie T to prevent him from hurting him. T gives in.

Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Anderson
Anderson gets on the mic to introduce himself, still getting pops. Hardy comes out kind of limping it seems, slapping hands. Seems like people are a little more pro-Hardy than Anderson. Plus, if one of them is going to turn heel, I'd agree with the majority thinking that it would be Anderson. That makes more sense than Hardy turning heel. Hardy eventually hits the Mic Check on Anderson. I guess that's the theme of the night, hitting someone else's finisher on them. Hardy misses the Whisper in the Wind. Anderson hits a Twist of Fate on Hardy. I guess that answers my question. Anderson misses a Swanton but Hardy hits one afterward, getting a two-count. Anderson is able to get a crafty pin on Hardy to win.

WINNER: Mr. Anderson via pinfall.
Not bad, not great.

Anderson goes to shake Hardy's hand after the match. Hardy reciprocates. They hug.

Time for the Twitter questions. Christy Hemme asks Austin Aries if he's intimidated by Bully Ray. Aries says no, it's not in his DNA to be intimidated.

Borash talks to Joseph Park. He says he's made a bunch of new friends in the crowd. He wouldn't be surprised if Abyss appeared tonight.

Out comes Crimson to gloat about how all he does is win. He's doing an open challenge. There's a "we want Steiner" chant going on if I can hear that correctly. Crimson gets a ref to count to ten and award him another victory. When he gets to 8, Eric Young and ODB come out. ODB is about to challenge him, but Young wants to instead.

Crimson vs. Eric Young
Young goes after the ref rather than Crimson. Young gets Crimson out of the ring and chases the ref. When Crimson gets a hold of him, he throws him over the ropes. ODB gets in the ring and Crimson pushes her down. Young gets pissed, pulls his shorts off, and attacks Crimson. Young checks on ODB and Crimson uses that to slam Young and win.

WINNER: Crimson via pinfall.
Not a big fan.

Backstage, Borash asks Bully Ray how he can compete with Aries who is younger and faster. Ray says he doesn't use Twitter. Blah blah, he's seen fear in Austin's eyes earlier.

Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray
These are two of my favorites in TNA right now. Hopefully, that translates to a good match. Ray tries talking trash to Aries who responds with some trash talking of his own. Ray continues to go to the ropes when Aries lunges for him. Aries finally hits the second rope to send it right up into Ray's crotch. Ray spits in Austin's face, Austin slaps him in return. Ray kicks Aries off the top ropes, sending him to the outside guard rail. As Ray chops/slaps Austin's chest, he keeps getting up. Ray eventually tosses Aries up and hits the 3D, but Aries kicks out. Bully Ray gets his chain and Joseph Park comes over to the ringside area. Ray gets ready to hit him with a chair but Aries goes after Ray instead. Aries hits a missile dropkick and leads up to the brainbuster. Bully Ray kicks out at the last second. Aries locks in the Last Chancery and makes Bully Ray submit.

WINNER: Austin Aries via submission.
Match of the night.

Backstage, Styles says if he isn't 100% focused on Kurt Angle, he'll lose. He's there to wrestle Angle, not talk about the Dixie Carter pictures.

Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles
These two seem to be trying to go for the best wrestling match of the night in terms of athleticism (which isn't surprising). I'm simply not going to list things move by move. Lots of action, but it's all really standard stuff that isn't worth writing (as that's tiresome as hell for me to do). Good action, though, don't get me wrong. Angle kicks out of a Styles Clash. Later on, Styles kicks out of an Angle Slam. TNA really loves their finisher kickouts, don't they? Kurt hits the Styles Clash on AJ - one more example of people using someone's finisher on themselves. There's always a gimmick for each pay-per-view that happens in tons of matches. Sometimes, every match has blading, sometimes it's interference, etc. Today's ppv is all about using your opponent's finisher. Kazarian and Daniels attack Styles. Angle hits another Angle Slam, but AJ kicks out. Kurt puts AJ in the ankle lock once more and Styles has to tap out.

WINNER: Kurt Angle via submission.
Good match, but I preferred Aries/Ray to watch in general.

After the match, Daniels and Kazarian attack AJ but Angle fights them off.

Backstage, Roode says the deck is stacked against him but it isn't going to work.

TNA Championship [Ladder Match]: Bobby Roode (c) vs. RVD
I'm expecting this to be a typical RVD ladder match (ie he'll kick the ladder when Roode is holding it, he'll do a Rolling Thunder and miss and hit the ladder instead, at least two missing jumps from the ladder that aren't huge, etc). Well, we've got the baseball slide kick and the flip onto the outside checked off. Roode catapults RVD into the ladder above him and RVD's head sticks inside the rungs (not in like, a sick and twisted way, don't worry). Kind of a pointless spot where the ladder is set up in front of Roode and RVD does his chair/kick spot. If anything, the ladder felt the damage. There's the Rolling Thunder spot, but he lands it. RVD misses the Frog Splash and lands on the ladder instead. RVD jumps in an attempt to land on the ladder and stop Roode from climbing, but the spot is botched and he twists the ladder around accidentally. They attempt a different setup where Roode kicks RVD down and the back of his head hits the chair on the way down, allowing Roode to finish climbing and get the title.

WINNER: Bobby Roode via retrieving the title.
Wasn't really that impressed.

HIGH SPOTS
1. Aries vs Bully Ray
2. Angle vs Styles
3. Seeing Brooke

LOW BLOWS
1. Crimson vs Eric Young
2. Devon vs Robbie E vs Robbie T
3. Promos for the most part tonight

CRITIQUE RATING SCALE: 2-COUNT NEAR-FALL (Meh)
Reasoning: Outside of a few little hiccups, the pay-per-view was more entertaining than I expected.

Wrestling Smack Talk: 5/5/2012

Posted by Anthony Mango - Saturday, May 5, 2012

What's been going on this week in the world of professional wrestling? It's time to break it down in the latest edition of SMACK TALK, my wrestling podcast and the quick notes below. Make sure to subscribe, comment on the videos and this post, and let us know your thoughts.

Watch each part below:
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10

  • Don't forget to vote on the latest group of matches for the hottest divas & knockouts tournament
  • WWE films ended up costing World Wrestling Entertainment $30 million in 2011 out of their $40 loss. Why do they keep trying?!
  • Edge hasn't re-signed with WWE. What does this mean for the future? I personally think it's just a smart "walk away and get them to cave in to a better deal" tactic and we'll see Edge back on WWE contract status soon enough.
  • Sabu was hospitalized after having a reaction to some medication he was taking and was forced out of the Extreme Reunion show. Justin Credible also was forced out, but that was not by accident, but rather because he was found in no condition to wrestle, slumped over a chair passed out. Ouch.
  • Sting is in the WWE alumni section of the website? Hm...
  • Scott Steiner continues his Twitter tirade against Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan. Bischoff is now starting to retweet anti-Steiner messages. Tisk tisk.
  • Bella twins appear to be gone from WWE. Adios ladies.
