WWE SummerSlam 2022 Preview - Triple Threat POV

Posted by Dallas Allsopp Saturday, July 30, 2022

Welcome to another edition of Triple Threat from Smark Out Moment, where three of us get together to discuss three questions based on one big topic going down in the week of professional wrestling.

This week, Dallas Allsopp, Greg Coleman and Robert DeFelice preview WWE SummerSlam 2022.

It's that time of the Summer once again! WWE will be presenting a July edition of SummerSlam, but just how hot will the event be in terms of excitement and action?

Question 1: Should Logan Paul go over The Miz? Are you confident he is committed to WWE?

ALLSOPP: I will put this out there - I cannot tolerate Logan Paul. He is the kind of person I’d avoid at parties, purely for how annoying and sycophantic he comes across as. Whilst many people don’t like The Miz, he is a credible future Hall of Famer, and as such, he should not be sacrificed to Paul. No doubt he will bring some eyes to the product, but I don’t think the numbers would justify a sustained push. Until he turns up every week after busting his ass off, I won’t see him as much more than a gimmick.

COLEMAN: It kind of feels as if Logan Paul goes over on The Miz that it’s really no place left for them to go, but we got three Cody Rhodes vs Seth Rollins matches even though the babyface won all three, so who knows what would happen if Paul won. I think Maryse should help The Miz get the victory, and this could possibly set up putting another celebrity or a returning or debuting women's wrestler with Paul to even the odds. The Paul Brothers are from Cleveland and so is one Johnny Gargano, who just so happens to be married to a woman who wrestles. Just saying.

I do believe Logan Paul is committed to WWE in whatever capacity he signed on to be. I don’t see him working a full-time wrestling schedule but I do believe he is going to do whatever it takes to be the best he can in WWE.

DeFELICE: I do feel that Logan Paul is committed to WWE. I, for one, have never gotten into the Paul brothers and their brand of entertainment, but I do feel like there is enough of a connection with the type of audience that the WWE reaches out to, and I do think Paul could make a genuine difference for WWE. Therefore, it goes without saying that you should absolutely defeat The Miz. I think he will be WWE Intercontinental Champion by WrestleMania 39.

Question 2: Who will be victorious in the WWE Raw Women’s Championship match? Will this be the match of the night?

COLEMAN: There is no way in hell that Bianca Belair loses to Becky Lynch at this year’s SummerSlam after what happened at last year’s event. This won’t be the match of the night because I think we see Belair actually squash Lynch and close the book on their story, which hopefully leads to the long awaited Belair vs Rhea Ripley feud. Give me Belair winning in 25 seconds!

DeFELICE: It makes the most sense to go with Bianca Belair here. However, Becky Lynch can never be completely ruled out as a loser because of her level of star power in a company that is greatly devoid of that element. The positive here is that on the other side of the ring, Belair has a great deal of star power herself and has the ability to be a greater star than any other woman on the WWE roster.

Also, I'm still waiting for Bayley. Belair wins.

ALLSOPP: Bianca Belair will surely achieve the redemption that she craves. She doesn’t need it, but it will certainly go a long way towards exorcising the demons of last year’s embarrassing defeat. I have absolutely no doubt this will be Match of the Night.

Question 3: Who walks out of SummerSlam as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion - Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, or Theory?

DeFELICE: Roman Reigns should leave SummerSlam with the belt and make it to 700 days. However, I'm not sold that they won't end this in a double knockout and try to have Theory cash in, with someone stopping him, potentially Drew McIntyre. I'm not totally convinced that it won't be McIntyre vs Brock Lesnar vs Reigns at WWE Clash at the Castle.

I also think it would be very interesting for Lesnar to win the title, given the fact that he was ready to walk out on the day that Vince McMahon retired. There are plenty of interesting factors here that should make for a very fun main event. I'm also expecting a lot of blood.

Final prediction: Reigns leaves as champion and reaches 700 days with the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.

ALLSOPP: I want to say Roman Reigns, but maybe, just maybe, Theory has his own SummerSlam moment in the same vein as Randy Orton in 2004. Hopefully with a better long term outcome, mind you.

COLEMAN: Roman Reigns wins and leaves SummerSlam as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Theory will tease a cash-in but won’t go through with it.

Those are our thoughts on the issue, but where do you stand?
