Jeff Cobb vs. Mascara Dorada
RESULT: Jeff Cobb wins by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: I missed the majority of the match as I was too busy adding all the extra matches they sprung up at the last minute. I hate how Tony Khan does that. I'm sure this match was fine, but I can't talk anything about it whatsoever.
Jericho Appreciation Society (Angelo Parker and Matt Menard) vs. Shinobi Shadow Squad (Cheeseburger and Eli Isom)
RESULT: Parker and Menard won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Just a match. Fine contest, but you know how I feel about matches that have zero build, mean nothing, aren't special enough to stand out, and just eat up time on a card that is already bloated. By that, I mean "I'd probably just skip past this on TV, even, but good for them for getting on the show."
Willow Nightingale vs. Trish Adora
RESULT: Willow Nightingale won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Just a match. I'm glad Willow got another win, but I'm not impressed with Adora.
Tag Team Match: The Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) vs. Top Flight (Dante Martin and Darius Martin)
RESULT: Top Flight won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: I'm surprised The Kingdom not only lost this match, but also shook hands with Top Flight just a few minutes after Maria had to be thrown out from ringside.
MAIN CARD
Tag Team Match: Blake Christian and A. R. Fox vs. La Facción Ingobernable (Dralístico and Rush)
RESULT: AR Fox and Blake Christian won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: That might not have been the planned finish. It certainly looked like Dralistico was supposed to kick out. This was yet another "just a match" situation as far as quality. Fine, but unnecessary. It certainly didn't need to take up 20 minutes on an already overpacked card. I know Tony Khan must feel like he needs to squeeze these people in to get them some screen time, but you're killing me here.
ROH Women's World Championship Match: Mercedes Martinez (c) vs. Athena
RESULT: Athena won the title by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Home state. Bigger name overall. More momentum on her side. A change of pace to freshen things up. A means to undo the criticism of Athena doing nothing since joining AEW, since she failed to beat Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship. Yeah, this makes sense.
Tag Team Match: Swerve in Our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) vs. Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor and JD Griffey)
RESULT: Swerve in Our Glory won by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: I guess Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland are going to stay a tag team even longer? Still? Just shit or get off the pot. And I know hardcore ROH fans are probably marking out over Lee and Shane Taylor having history, but as an outsider to the brand, I couldn't care less and they didn't do ANYTHING to make me feel that part of the feud when you just go "Oh, this match is happening. Do your homework." That's what we call bad storytelling.
ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match: Dalton Castle and The Boys (c) vs. The Embassy
RESULT: The Embassy won the titles by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This took way too long. It should have been a squash.
ROH Pure Championship Match: Daniel Garcia (c) vs. Wheeler Yuta
RESULT: Wheeler Yuta won the title by referee stoppage.
THOUGHTS: Look. These two guys know how to wrestle. Hats off to them, even if I wasn't honed into the match because I'm already burned out on this card and because I've seen them fight enough times that they didn't give me anything that kept my attention. I'm not a big fan of Pure Championship rules as it is. But if this were the first match I saw of this series, I probably would have thought it was really great. I'm surprised Yuta won the title, and in the fashion he did. Thumbs up, but I just don't have it in me to gush over it like I'm sure most people will/are.
ROH World Tag Team Championship Double Dog Collar Match: FTR (c) vs. The Briscoes
RESULT: The Briscoes won the titles by submission via Harwood passing out.
THOUGHTS: Awesome match. Much better than everything else before it combined. This was a great brawl.
ROH World Television Championship Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Juice Robinson
RESULT: Samoa Joe retained the title by pinfall
THOUGHTS: Can't have Wardlow interfere to cost Joe and push that story forward? Robinson would have made a good champion, too. I think this was a mistake, but I hope hindsight proves me wrong and there's something good in mind here. As it is, since nothing happened, this just became another match for the sake of having a match, which I'm not fond of, even if I enjoyed this particular segment. It's still coming across a bit more "but why?" than I would like.
ROH World Championship Match: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli
RESULT: Claudio Castagnoli won the title back by spinning Jericho over 30 times! What?!
THOUGHTS: That was not at all the way I expected this to go down, but I laughed.
