WWE BASH IN BERLIN CARD:

Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens

RESULT: Cody Rhodes retained by pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Fine enough. Nothing all that special. I don't see the point in doing a tag match, Solo Sikoa vs Cody, then this, then reverting back to another Sikoa match at Bad Blood. Maybe I'm missing something to the story, but this didn't feel like it set up anything worth going on a side mission for mid-Sikoa, as opposed to just having moved on entirely.

Tag Team Match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship: The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn) (c) vs. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill

RESULT: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill won the titles back by pinfall!
THOUGHTS: Fine enough. I'm assuming they hold the tag titles until at least around Royal Rumble time if they're going to fight each other at WrestleMania. If not, then I guess they'll keep the titles and defend them at Mania itself.

Strap Match: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre

RESULT: CM Punk won.
THOUGHTS: Fine enough (I have a feeling this is going to be the case all around). Strap matches aren't the most exhilarating, but they did their job well.

Mixed Tag Team Match: The Terror Twins (Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley) vs. The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan)

RESULT: The Terror Twins won by pinfall (with Rhea Ripley pinning Liv Morgan)
THOUGHTS: Fine enough (ha). The crowd enjoyed it. The match had no stakes, so it ultimately doesn't matter, but it was a solid tag team match.

Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Randy Orton

RESULT: Gunther retained by submission (via Orton passing out, rather than tapping).
THOUGHTS: Fine enough—nah, this was rock solid. I don't want to give off the impression that I somehow hated this event, when I know how easy it is for people to see something that doesn't go "OMG THIS WAS THE BEST EVER" and accuse me of going in the opposite extreme as if I hated it. I'm clarifying here that I didn't. But I will say that this was definitely on par with an old school In Your House pay-per-view, rather than some tentpole event. It doesn't register much on the importance scale. None of the matches were bad, but they weren't Match of the Year material, either. If I wasn't watching 700+ hours of wrestling a year for decades, I'd probably be more hyped about it, but this was just a generic 7/10 type of show overall. Thumbs up, but not an enthusiastic "Oh my god, if you missed this, you have to go back and check it out" type of thumbs up.

The following are my predictions for the 2024 WWE Bash in Berlin PPV. Check back for Bash in Berlin 2024 results and review coverage here when the time comes.

WWE Bash in Berlin 2024 Spoilers

Singles Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Randy Orton

All things considered, since King & Queen of the Ring wasn't supposed to go down the way it did with Randy Orton's shoulders up, WWE's managed to come back around to giving this a worthwhile reasoning to happen. It's odd that it separates Orton from the whole Bloodline story, but with everyone focusing so much on Roman Reigns and his return, now may be the perfect time to pull that off without opening up too many questions. Plus, Orton waiting until Gunther is champion to call for a title match is a valid reasoning, too.

PREDICTION: Gunther retains.

Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens

I love me some Kevin Owens, but he definitely reeks of "filler opponent to stall" here. Rhodes shouldn't be just arbitrarily fighting another member of The Bloodline to follow up that storyline and should be at least slightly separate from them until things need to heat up for WarGames and whatnot, so I get it. It's also not time to pull the trigger on the Randy Orton feud. Owens fighting Rhodes is an obvious win for Rhodes, but Bash in Berlin has the big draw in Gunther, so I also get why they're doing this now as opposed to waiting. But it still does ring to me like they won't be able to develop a strong enough impact from this to make me super invested. It'll probably just be an exhibition for the sake of it, unless the plan is for Owens to turn heel out of losing and follow up with a rematch at Bad Blood, and that that will keep Owens away from supporting Rhodes come time for Survivor Series.

PREDICTION: Cody Rhodes retains.

Mixed Tag Team Match: The Terror Twins (Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley) vs. The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan)

I don't blame WWE whatsoever in doing this mixed tag team match to stall for time. Bad Blood is right on the horizon, Rhea Ripley has no ties to Germany to make her winning the Women's World Championship back there mean anything, and while this could easily just be on an episode of Raw, that's a give and take with about 40% of all pay-per-view matches these days anyway. This gives time to allow Priest and Finn Balor to stay at each other without going straight to the match, too. I'm sure both of those singles matches will be scheduled for Bad Blood and this will just be a means to an end of Ripley getting her hands on Dirty Dom, with the babyfaces coming out on top to justify why Ripley gets a title shot.

PREDICTION: The Terror Twins win.

Strap Match: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre

These two love their straps and bracelets, don't they? It's not my favorite way to extend a few, as strap matches are meh, but at least they said it was the version of it where they'll have to touch the turnbuckles. I hate it when a strap match is pinfall or submission.

PREDICTION: CM Punk wins to make them 1-1.

Tag Team Match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship: The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn) (c) vs. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill

Well, they gave The Unholy Union the tag titles in Clash at the Castle to get that pop, and waited a while stalling with the proper rematch. I guess it's time to just revert back to the previous setup and kill some more time.

PREDICTION: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill win the titles back.
