AJ Styles will defend his WWE World Championship against no one other but THE James Ellsworth! After his upset last week we will see another battle between the two, but this time the gold is on the line.
PROMO (Backstage): Dean Ambrose is backstage with James Ellsworth, and he has James first ever custom made t-shirt. He gives it to James telling him he needs to be ready for tonight, because everyone is counting on him.
PROMO (In-Ring): "The Viper" Randy Orton is here! Randy says he is giving credit where its due, and that the evil inside Bray runs deeper than he ever thought. The more you fight it, the deeper it pulls you down. He feels like he's losing his mind, but thats a bigger problem for Bray than it is for him. He is wrath, he is vengeance, and he's coming for Bray. Bray pops up on the big screen in an open casket surrounded by men is black clothing with black sheep masks on. He has that Randy doesn't have to come after him, because Bray is coming after Randy. He says, "I'm having so much fun Randy, aren't you? I think not. By the way.. He's here." And out comes Luke Harper.
MATCH: Randy Orton vs. Luke Harper
During the match Bray Wyatt, being rolled by his sheep masked followers, rolls down the ramp to the ring in a casket. Bray sets the casket up at the edge of the ring, open.
Eventually, Bray gets involved. The casket is closed, but when Bray opens it up to put Randy in it Kane pops out. The two get ready to finish the Wyatts off but the lights go out and The Wyatt Family disappears.
RESULTS: Randy Orton wins via DQ.
THOUGHTS: Having Bray in the casket is a pretty cool thing that we haven't seen since he and Taker had the WrestleMania program. I'm assuming this is setting up for a casket match between the two which would be pretty cool. Having Kane come in was great too. Liked this segment! Super strong start.
PROMO (Backstage): AJ is being interviewed, and he is asked about the title match with James Ellsworth later tonight. He says he has scratched and clawed to become "the face that runs the place". But now he has to waste time with James Ellsworth, and he knows Dean is going to find a way to try and embarrass him. He says he will find Dean Ambrose no matter where he is and he will take him apart if he causes him to lose that title.
MATCH: Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss
RESULTS: Alexa Bliss wins via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: Alexa Bliss is a future megastar in the women's division. This was really a good match, and I'm looking forward to her and Becky facing off.
PROMO (In-Ring): Alexa is asked about her match with Becky. She says that in three weeks the fairy tale ends, and the glass slipper no longer fits. She will be the new champ.
MATCH: Curt Hawkins vs. Apollo Crews
Crews hits Hawkins during his entrance after disrespecting Crews, and Hawkins leaves.
RESULTS: No contest?
THOUGHTS: I haven't cared the least bit about this guy since they announced his return and he's been doing those awful promos. This did not change my mind.
PROMO (In-Ring): Carmella is coming out to address the Bella issue.. Oh good. Carmella doesn't understand why people keep going nuts over Nikki Bella. She says she is here to spill the tea, but then out comes Nikki. Nikki is curious as to what Carmella has to say. Carmella is not surprised she's out to steal the spotlight like she did at SummerSlam, and the only reason she can do whatever she wants is because she is dating Cena. I guess her dating Cena was Carmella's big secret, like no one else knew.. Nikki says she should be ashamed for demeaning her accomplishments because of Cena. Then Carmella plays a video of Nikki being "clingy" to John on Total Divas/Bellas or whatever. Nikki isn't impressed, and says she does everything on her own. Carmella says that Nikki may be fearless, but she tells the truth. She used her looks, her sister, and her boyfriend to become what she is today. Drops the mic and leaves.
PROMO (Backstage): Renee asks James how he is feeling about his match tonight. James says that last week he somehow survived a match against the WWE Champ, and then he was sitting next to Daniel Bryan and talking to him on Talking Smack. Then his life changed when he was told he got a totle match. He says he knows that AJ is the better man, but one day he'll be able to tell his grandchildren that he fought for the WWE World Championship on SmackDown Live.
MATCH: Slater and Rhyno & Dolph Ziggler vs. The Spirit Squad & The Miz
RESULTS: The Spirit Squad & The Miz win via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: This was really a fun match. Heels win in heel fashion. Good stuff.
PROMO (Backstage): Bryan is on the phone with Shane, and he agrees that they need to start putting Survivor Series teams together, and even though the roster isn't completely together right now they will be when it counts. The Natalya comes in and says she wants to be a part of the women's team, quotes Whitney Houston, and then asks Bryan to follow her cat on Instagram.
MATCH: Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin
RESULTS: Baron Corbin wins via pinfall.
THOUGHTS: That was a manhandling by Corbin. Looked like a monster here. I really like this guy.
PROMO (Backstage): Natalya is still showing Daniel Bryan cat pictures, but then Dean comes in with a ref shirt on saying he can't wait to be the sheriff in the title match tonight. Bryan apologizes to him but he can't be the ref. He can be time keeper, ring announcer, or commentator. Dean says, "Okay. I'll do that." but doesn't specify which he will do.
WWE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ Styles (c) vs. James Ellsworth
Before the match Dean Ambrose comes out to be a part of the match in some capacity.
Dean is the ring announcer and gives Ellsworth an amazing intro, and AJ not so much.
Dean then goes to the ring bell, and doesn't stop ringing it until James gets the jump on AJ. AJ quickly regains the upper hand, but then Dean calls for the match to stop for a commercial time out.
Dean continues to distract AJ and help James Ellsworth. Dean and AJ then go back and forth throwing Ellsworth in and out of the ring with AJ saying he doesn't deserve to be there but Dean says he does.
Dean eggs on AJ saying he can hit harder, and then AJ gets disqualified for punches on the ropes.
RESULTS: James Ellsworth wins via DQ, but therefore does not get the title.
THOUGHTS: This was super entertaining and just fun.A guy like James Ellsworth is living the dream with his own shirt, entrance music and video, and then a championship match with AJ Styles. WWE does some pretty cool things. This was one of them.
